Says who? Because his mother and sisters are dressed in accordance with their religion? What about Pentecostal women who wear long skirts, do not believe in cutting their hair or wearing make-up? Should they also assimilate into our population and start wearing make-up and dressing like sluts just because that's the latest trend? No difference so don't try backing out of this corner. And neither do those poor Pentecostal women, or many other religious sects for that matter. What's your point?
Your opinion, fair enough. We disagree. Ever been around 14 year olds much? I have one. They have reached the age of know-it-all-ism. The kid was proud of his project and wanted to show it off. This isn't really outside the bounds of reason at all. To suggest that he had a sinister motivation, which at the end of the day is the accusation here, is ludicrous. I skip it every day.....slows me down much too much.
We do not need commentary from anyone to deduce that the teachers' account of events do not add up. They claim they thought it was a bomb. If so, why not evacuate the school and call in a bomb squad? Then the Chief of Police admits that they knew it was not a bomb shortly after it was discovered. So while there has been no press conference called for everyone to tell their side of the story, there is a flashing neon sign of common sense pointing directly at the fact that something doesn't add up. They arrested the boy for what exactly? I get it that they might have been alarmed at first, but once they knew it was a clock, which the kid maintained all along....why take it any further? Why suspend him from school for three days? Why put him in cuffs (I know you realize it was over the top too) and haul him to juvie? The initial alarm makes perfect sense.....everything after that does not. This is every day....and yes, you are right about that.
he made the point about religious dress, not me. this is a free country with religious freedoms for every religion, not just your preferred religion. if the muslims need to quit dressing in their traditional religious garb then so do the pentecostals and whacko mormon sects in Utah who still practice polygamy. it works both ways
In the quote you responded to here.....did I say he should be punished? No. I did not. I said he shouldn't be excused or applauded. Stop already with the cuffing bullshit. I have now said 3 or 4 times that it was inappropriate. Humiliated by me? That is hilarious. I haven't done a gotdamn thing to Ahmed. Do you know why everyone knows this little turd's name? Because his sisters set up a twitter account within hours of the occurrence. THEY made him a household name. And then his family and attorney trotted him out in front of the media. THEY are making him a media sensation. Without his family and attorney, how does Ahmed get a twitter invite from PBO? See how that works? I have seen the principal's name several times, yes. I have seen a picture of one of the cops, yes. I haven't seen the teacher's name but he's an employee and likely not allowed to talk about this to the media. He is also not being accused of anything other than lack of confiscation.
I don't think the traditional dress is offensive, but there is a sizable Muslim community here in Plano, so it is very visible. Do I think it subjugates women? Yes, I do, just like the ridiculous Pentecostal garb. I'm not suggesting that either religion's women dress "slutty," but as a mom of two girls, I'm a fan of empowered women.
