Bottom line: NONE of this is a crime, even if were to be true. It is overt xenophobia and racism.

It's not racist to be vigilant about the doings of muslims. Not a crime but the whole family bears watching.

I think they do owe an apology. My opinion.

The Science teacher, whom Ahmed had hoped to impress with his project, told him to put it away and not show it to anyone else. Ahmed plugged it in in his English class and that's when it went off. Yes, he owes his Science teacher an apology in the least. Ahmed said he was disappointed that the Science teacher didn't appear more impressed. I think that's why he disregarded the advice and used it in the English class.

Did you skip your happy pill today?

Why would anybody be impressed by a clock? It's not a time machine. It's a freakin' clock.

Invent a time travel device or a warp drive and I'll be impressed.

Talk about ass-pulling. We have no commentary from the English teacher, nor a presser from the principal giving the exact series of events and comments. We have Ahmed's side of things. It's been a very unbalanced reporting so far. But you go ahead there, Mr. Spinmeister.

Hmmmm....could have sworn I read something about that shirt here but I never said the comments I was referring to were made HERE. It was a generalization and opinion about the topic at large. We are allowed to make those, right?

I have said twice already, that the handcuffs were over the top.

You are being quite the asshole today. I'm right about that.

I have already said that IMO, the Science teacher should have confiscated it. I think there is nothing obvious about what it was or he wouldn't have made those comments.

Good kids do really dumb shit sometimes. That doesn't mean they should be applauded or excused.

So if there were mistakes on both sides, why does Ahmed get a free pass and all kinds of positive attention? And frankly I want to know more about exactly what was asked and answered and I want to know from the school officials and law enforcement.

Why should a science teacher be required to take possession of a device that could be explosive. Teachers are not trained to handle explosives. The teacher should have cleared the room and called the police. This is a job for the bomb squad to determine what it was.

If any teacher was irresponsible in this scenario, it was the science teacher who saw it first. He (or she) obviously found it suspicious enough to tell Ahmed to hide it from anyone else, so he (or she) should have reported it ASAP to the front office. My principal would be livid if we didn't report a device that looked like that. And I'm pretty sure she would have called a lockdown or evacuation.

As for the NASA shirt, I've heard several times that the shirt precludes him from any wrongdoing (maybe not here, but certainly locally.) Really? It's a shirt, just like it was clock (I guess.)

What penalty do you suggest? Cuff him and book him, teach him a good lesson? Expel him for not breaking any laws?

Free pass? His name is all over the papers, he was cuffed and taken to juvenile detention, and he is being publicly humiliated by half of America, including you! Have you seen the name of the science teacher or the school principal or the cop who cuffed him? You know, the people that everyone agrees did not handle this properly? Why are they being protected from this "positive attention".
