I would agree, 100% and I absolutely believe the school should have been evacuated. It looked suspicious enough to warrant it and teachers are not qualified to make the "all safe " on the fly. I will give you the cuffs and trip downtown were too much, especially if they had already determined there was no threat. My point is they should never make that call.
Neither has there been an apology from the family for not having taken enough notice to see what their child was doing nor an apology from Ahmed for disobeying his Science teacher or for causing potential emotional harm to fellow students and teachers.
Actually, they were following protocol as it is lined out in the Code of Conduct... "Any electronic communication device that is activated, used, or displayed in a manner that endangers the physical safety or emotional well being of others will be confiscated and held for disciplinary proceedings or turned over to law enforcement. (Refer to Board Policy FNF, FO)" They didn't need to deem it an actual bomb in order for it to be confiscated and turned over to law enforcement. An good academic record is not enough to dismiss someone from potential wrong-doing. Just as a poor academic record doesn't make someone automatically suspicious or bad. I keep seeing comments about his NASA shirt as if it somehow gives him "good cred". But these same comments were made by people who disagreed that a hoody makes someone sketchy.
not even close. I know you'd like to think they are one in the same but the are far from it. this is really an asinine thing to say.
The boys parents do not owe an apology even though I think their judgement was flawed if they knew what he was bringing to school and the sensitivities that exist in our society about such. That said, the boy sure as shit doesn't owe an apology. He didn't disobey the Science teacher. The clock made a sound in the kids English class that prompted the teacher to ask what it was. Do some homework before running that mouth of yours.
Irrelevant. They said they believed he had a bomb. If they believed he had a bomb then they should have evacuated the school and called in a bomb squad. If not, then they are lying that they thought it was a bomb....at least on second glance. You are pulling shit out of your ass to try and defend the indefensible. No one here is saying shit about his t-shirt. quit trying to make this about something else than what it is. you are wrong. the people who put this kid in handcuffs and took him to juvie are wrong. quit trying to find a way for you to be right. you are not.
Smart enough to learn to fly airliners but maybe not smart enough to learn to land. Bottom line: The kid is a muslim from a muslim family who doesn't want to be assimilated into the American way of life. Look at how his mother and sisters are dressed. They are still in bondage to a primitive way of life that holds that women have no value except as mothers and cooks.
So why did the science teacher only tell the kid not to show it to anybody, fail to confiscate it, and fail to report it? Could it be that it was obviously exactly what he said it was? He treated it like he would treat a harmless science project. No, but his good behavior record suggests to anybody with good sense that they are not dealing with a known troublemaker. Especially obvious is the fact that he proudly showed it to his teacher, explaining how it worked and neither concealed it nor threatened anybody with it. He treated it exactly like he would treat a harmless science project. I think we all agree that he showed it off to someone, foolishly after being warned that it might look frightening to others. Then some other teacher or administrator foolishly started a punitive action without an investigation and irresponsibly failed to evacuate the school if they were seriously concerned. Then some cop improperly detained the kid without justification.
