Yes you can. I set the record for the 2 mile @ my school in 1978. 8:48. Cool thing is my record will never be broken as they don't run the 2 mile anymore. Now they run the 3200M. I'll bask in my glory now.

Thanks. That was my junior year. My right knee didn't hold up so I had to quit distance running and switched to high jump. Talk about a blast...had I known how much fun I would have high jumping, I would have done it all 4 years. Funny thing, when I ran that 8:48, it was almost effortless. It was just one of those "perfect" days. If I had had someone really pushing me, I think I could have run at least 10 seconds faster. Other days, I would struggle to hit 9:20. It is so much more technical now. We didn't know 1% of what they know now as far as the science behind running. I have often wondered how fast I could have run if I was 17 today.
