It doesn't bother me a bit. But I do feel if people plan to reside in the U.S. it would be to their benefit to learn English. Most do, and speak their native tongue when speaking to others of their nationality.
I'm deep in cajun country, so I always run into some older person who only speaks french. My great grandma on my fathers side never learned english her whole life. On the Texas side of my family, my grandmother is hispanic and speaks very fluently in english and spanish. Whenever I'd visit and one of her sister was over they would often carry on in spanish and i found it fascinating. After Katrina there was a huge influx in the hispanic population, but i think most of us in this area just shrugged it off as a new second language to learn.
This one includes Mrs. Cleaver: Airplane! - "Oh stewardess, I speak jive" From time to time, I've been known to copy her immortal phrase, "Chump don't want no help, chump don't get no help." I liked the Naked Gun movies better than Airplane, though.
No. In fact, I've been to the backwoods of Alabama and couldn't understand a thing some were saying at the gas station and they were supposed to be speaking English.
My cousin was at a bar in Alabama and his thick cajun accent prompted the bar girl to tell him he talked funny. He replied "Mais, and you you".
