You couldn't make that movie today - it would've offended anything w/ a pulse! It's a shame we've let the pc crowd think they are relevant.
You may see this hard working sector start to diminish. There have been an estimated 80000 Mexicans who have crossed back to Mexico over the last 6 months. This just from Cali, Nevada, Arizona, and New Mexico. Mostly attributed to the slumping economy. Many Mexican's have been unable to find employment in the fields of construction, maintenance, housekeeping, and other jobs held largely be Mexican Nationals.
OK I'll translate... Whenever I go to wal-mart, I always speak Spanish to the latin dudes that I run into there. I always tell them (in spanish) that it's against the law to speak Spanish in America because us gringos don't understand a word they're saying. When they laugh they tell me that I speak Spanish very well. and I always thell them that I can speak it even better after a bottle of rum or tequila. The only problem is that after two bottles I can't remember any English so It's only Spanish after two bottles!! It gets a laugh every time and... embarasses the heck out of my kids.:thumb:
When I came to LSU as an out of state student, it took me weeks to understand what my roommate (from Avoyelles Parish) was saying. We proved to be a great source of amusement to each other during that time. Doesn't have to be a "foreign" language to create a bit of a barrier. After four years of the same roommate, he said I could finally talk almost as good as he could.
Funny, I've been threatened in both Spanish and German and I had no trouble understanding them at all . . .
When I can tell that some foreigner is talking about me, I laugh inside and look at them condescendingly. Why should I care about what some foreigner has to say about me? It's like a 5 year old critiquing a PhD thesis -- cute, but ultimately irrelevant. You must have been stumped by the bruhs that go to the scrip club all the time then. That was YOU?!?
