1. I agree. Look, would ANY of us so much as bat an eye if after spring or during the recently completed fall practice, that Lee or Mettenberger had beaten out JJ for the starting job? There are a large percentage of us here on this very forum that honestly believed after last year's dismal passing output, that JJ would have already been passed up--or close to it. I'm not knocking JJ because of the recent happenings. I'm just speaking truthfully.

Josh Johns wasn't going to play.

    Davenport probably wouldn't have played.

Landry had a fractured foot not long ago (but...ugh, I guess if you're healthy enough to fight...but that's beside the point. Incident or not, I for one didn't think he'd be healthy and/or up to speed to really contribute all that much vs Oregon.

From where I stand, the only "REAL surprise loss" is Shep. He's really the only player I think our offense will miss. That' doesn't mean we can't still compete and compete well. It just takes away that dynamic of our offense with end arounds and screens to get RS in space. But I'm confident that our other WR's will step in and we'll be just fine.
  2. I'll agree with everything except the importance of Shep.

We never really were able to get him going in his 2 seasons with LSU, and we have MANY speedsters on this team, so someone like a Jakari Gore could easily step in for those "explosive" plays.

I turn the Shepard thing into a positive (silver lining, if you will) which forces Miles to play Wright a ton more now, a ton more than he probably would have seen the field. Wright will be a very good receiver for us this season.
  3. yeah...he hasn't consistantly lived up to the hype so-to-speak. I don't lay it all at his feet. Perhaps we, as fans, were demanding too much??

But, he hasn't struggled to put together back-to-back impressive games so I definately see your point.

Where I think he helps and will be missed (at least for this game) will be the fact that he's got that big game experience that we are thin at as a whole in the WR group.
  4. LSUs bringing a brawlers game to the Ducks with a nasty nasty defense... Oregons offense is gonna get beat up.
  5. Everything about Les Miles tells me the team will rally around and if nothing else, give everything they have against Oregon.

The implications of this game just got bigger because, it is about more than just 1 win or 1 loss. It wouldn't be the end of the world if we lost, but I wanna see if our team can rebound back like in 2005, and not spiral into a season like 2008. It's one thing to be defeated on the scoreboard, another thing to be defeated in your will.

  6. Ok, it is time for everyone to wake up now.

Do I think we will come out and play a good game? yes
Do I think we win that game? yes

Do I think we are going to see all sorts of speed and high flying fun and gun antics? Hell to the NO.

You are going to think you are watching Wisconsin out there. I'll set the over/under on 32 Dive at somewhere around 45. This is going to be pound it out ball/clock control football.

  7. I like the Coordinators we have on this staff a little better, both sides of the ball.

  8. If the referees let us play. All this fighting talk may make them want to tone down a physical game and throw flags.
  9. I can't say that I like our coordinators on "both sides of the ball" when GS has yet to call a single game for LSU as OC.

All I know about coach Stud is that he's done a great job as OL coach. But that always doesn't translate at being successful as an OC. He's got experience (BGSU) and was no doubt the right person to promote to OC by Miles. But I can't honestly say I like Stud's offensive play calling better than Crowton's until Stud gets a few games under his belt.

(disclaimer: Crowton's offense went to sh*t since '07 so it won't take much for me to like something better)
  10. I really think we rally and play well...with or without JJ.
