They are saying here that he will pay for both. They said yesterday they will not trade Rivers and the team is evidently happy to ahve them both. We will see how the saga plays out, but the media here is saying they plan to keep both.

you don't think they can actually sign both do you? Brees' agent won't allow that, will he?

The team wanting to sign both, and Brees agreeing to sign are two different things. If Brees does decide to stay - it will be with the guaranteed prospect of a media hell hole. If Brees starts, and has one or two bad games - the media will cry for Rivers. If Rivers starts - Brees will have wasted a great year and free agency, only to be embroiled in a QB controversey of his own if Rivers struggles.

Rivers was the top pick, I can see no way he will sit more than 2 years max - so Brees' position as starting QB is limited, regardless of what Marty wants or doesn't want. If I were Brees I'd get the hell out of SD, take advantage of your great year and go to one of the many teams who need a QB.

I suspect the team is just saying that to avoid controversy in the late stages of a successful playoff season.

btw, off the subject a bit...the way Brees was treated by the SD fans is the way JR is feeling about now. That is why we need to treat him better and give him a chance - other QB prospects are watching, and why would they want to be put in a position to be ridiculed by fans after 1 year?

He needs to take that in his own hands and run with it. Fans reward good performance and punish bad..that is the way it is in every sport.

Fans support 19 year old kids who give their best effort while struggling to learn, whiners and wannabes punish them for mistakes.

The Chargers can make him their franchise player for $9 million. So they could keep him without dealing with Brees' agent but I see them letting him go and turning the team over to Rivers.

The other Chargers players have been saying they want Brees back next year using the "If it ain't broken" line.

He'd been given multiple chances for all of his years in this league, and never took the opportunity...When the lightbulb went off as he realized they'd go after a quarterback in the draft, he realized he had to actuallyt rain, actually dedicate himself to film study and diligent work. He couldn't just get by with precursory preparations.

You see the results when a man of superior athletic skill dedicates himself mentally to the game in the same manner his physical traits have been dedicated.

Jake Delhomme was buried on depth chart after depth chart...and was never given an opportunity. Brees was given the keys to the car from day one.
