you start to threaten innocent women and children and you are no better than the guy on the interrogation table. You guys watch 24 too much.
OK Red. How many ex Pows do you know? Did they keep the lilac soaps and chocolates from their pillows.
when enemy combatants put on uniforms and fight wars like honorable soldiers, they will be treated like real POWs, not terrorists. lets not act like there is no difference between a terrorist and an enemy soldier. i dont want us torturing the guy who happened to fight in the iraqi army and wants to get out of the war to home to his family. that is a guy we can respect. but the guy from the al queda camp, training in how to strap a bomb to himself, he can be waterboarded 24/7 for all i care. if americans start strapping bombs to themselves and blowing up civilian cafes, or flying planes into buildings in riyadh or cairo for jesus, i encourage the arabs to torture the hell out of them.
I think the guest of the Hanoi Hilton would disagree with you. Agreed. A terrorist should not be afforded the same rights as an enemy soldier.
John McCain wrote a book about it. So have several other former POW's. It would be good reading for you. I'm on McCains side on this issue. Why aren't you?
John McCain doesn't. From Wikipedia: "They should know what [waterboarding] is. It is not a complicated procedure. It is torture." -- John McCain, October 2008
I am not debating McCain's position on torture. I am arguing that POWs get abused regardless of political prohibitions. I think McCain would agree that he was abused. Because I'm not a sapling in the wind. I have my own opinions.
I was referring to your statement that most countries we've fought against have respected the Geneva Conventions. John McCain is living proof that that is not the case. Treatment of American POWs by the Vietnamese is well-documented. John McCain does offer a very unique perspective however, given his personal experiences, and I can understand his opposition towards it.
Decent Vid from McCain YouTube - McCain: Torture Investigation Would Be "Serious Mistake" What I do find interesting is McCain says he doesn't agree with torture. But he doesn't agree with letting the information out. This is a bit of hypocrisy .
