Do LSU fans really understand what "elite" status means?

Look, this whole thing started with someone saying that Texas felt very confident after beating a talented Ohio St team, while LSU only had App St to feel confident about wins over. Basically, he made a post that I disagreed with, but had an intent that I agreed with (LSU shouldn't play Div II schools).

My only point was that LSU has played some pretty good teams & that Texas hasn't played a schedule they could brag about any more than LSU could brag about theirs.

    Florida, AU, Alabama. ASU.

That's three more quality opponents than some in the top 25 can claim.

Ah, as long as the post was made... I guess we can argue about it.

I think the Big I (get it? It's a joke, because there's only 1 real team... :yelwink2: )is probably the second worst BCS conference this year. Even the Pac 10 has a couple respectable programs. The Big XXII has Texas & Texas Tech (which a good balanced team would beat). With Oklahoma perhaps the 3rd best, and we've seen how great they are. Compared to the SEC - with 3 very good teams - Auburn, Georgia & LSU. Plus some good teams - Bama, Florida & USC. Then several Big XXII caliber teams beneath them.

PS: I wasn't dogging Texas & think they deserve to be playing for the NC, I will be pulling for them.

Maybe the SEC was down a little bit this year, but you cannot argue that the best football is definitely played in the SEC.

The best definition of "ELITE STATUS" that I have heard came from a poster on our forum last year.

"Elite programs can best be defined by the schools 5 star athletes put on their "considering list" whether they ever plan to go there or not."

Agreed. Also. elite means that that your program is at a status where your football team could tank and never once lose that status. Penn State, Bama, ND, USC. All these teams could just go (and in some cases did) in the crapper for 5-10 years and when then get back to winning status again, they pick up right where they left off in the respect factor. Elite status has just as much to do with how willing the Media is to pump you up, as win and losses. Wins and losses get you there, media preference keeps you there. LSU is not an Elite school. We have to earn our status every single year and will continue to do so untill we do something so outstanding, that everybody is forced to just eat their bias and just admit that we are great (i.e. winning multiple MNC and SEC chapionships in a short amount of time)

I'll have to get back with you on this, I don't have the time to check out what's been going on the past few weeks.
