Do LSU fans really understand what "elite" status means?

Great Post Martin. I think Recruiting the Elite players is mandatory. Look how long Texas was pulling in Blue Chippers and winning about 10 games with Mac Brown, before they arrived at where they are.

    2 Points...
    1) Will Coach Miles be able to get the best talent to LSU? Let's hope so!

    2) For the last 4 years, Texas has played a couple of easy games (ex. North Texas) who we also played this year. BUT, do you think there is any question that Texas FINALLY got the confidence they needed to get past OU, the Big 12 Championship and on to the National Championship after playing Ohio State???? I bet Texas felt like no one could stand in their way after going up to Ohio State and winning. What do we think our LSU team felt like winning against App State? Now, I know the SEC is the toughest Conf. period, but set the bar a little higher. Think how crazy the week leading up to LSU vs. Michigan/Ohio State/Notre Dame/PennState/Miami would be!!!

You are the only one who has predicted .500 for LSU next year, bud. Most of the Miles bashers are saying "off with his head" if he goes 8-3. You are entitled to your views, but thankfully it is a minority opinion around here.

Let's see you back up your contention with some numbers like the Blankman has done. It is Jesuit & the Bashers that have a crisis of confidence. Where is any evidence that there is such a crisis on the team or among the coaches?

And, no, we ain't going to throw out the record. This is the point you are missing.

I don't care if 90,000 idiots lack confidence in LSU and "have a growing sentiment" that LSU will be .500 next year. Doesn't change the fact that all 90K of them are idiots.

I would argue that much of the senior leadership, especially among the O-Line, has historically not showed the type of skill necessary to have the kind of success that you and your ilk want...nay...expect out of LSU football. Our O-Line, despite being made up of 4 seniors and a junior, is a list of nobodies apart from Whitworth. Sure, it's excellent and great that our starting center is an Academic All-American, but what has he done on the field recently? Hold, incur 15-yard personal fouls, and whiff?

Don't get me started about all of the "highly recruited" underclassmen either. Name a WR who has produced up to your standards other than Craig Davis... and it seems that every ball thrown his way is at his shoetops as it is. How about RBs? Is it Les's fault that JV sucks and that Joseph Addai got hurt? (Don't give me any App. St crap either. Starters start and backups come in.)

We never were able to replace Stan Hixon as a WR coach. Your complaints should ALL be directed towards position coaches rather than the head coach. The head coach's job is to recruit, either assist in the calling of offensive or defensive plays, and to hire position coaches to coach positions.

Surely you realize that the Big XII is absolutely pathetic outside of Texas this year, right? The Ohio St team Texas beat was barely a top 20 team (at that time). Obviously, that wasn't their ranking but their offense was absolutely pathetic at that time & Texas barely won. Every other team Texas has played has been a "North Texas" caliber team...

How about LSU going TO Arizona St to start the season & pulling out a win? Don't you think that boosted their confidence some? Winning home games against Florida & Auburn, plus going into an undefeated Bama's house to defeat them...

I don't think you thought your post through enough.

So did you want Saban fired for not developing the WRs himself?

Exactly. Which players does Jesuit Flyer expect Miles to be involved with? I can only expect Offensive Line. These senior offensive linemen probably don't take well to instruction this far along in there careers.

Nick had the benefit later in his career at LSU of being able to bring up DB's from nothing and turn them into star players.

    Bottom line is this;

YOU SIMPLY CANNOT PASS JUDGMENT ON A HC AFTER ONE YEAR. IF YOU ATTEMPT TO, YOU LOOK LIKE A ****ING MORON. AND THAT'S BEING CHARITABLE.

Well, you can't completely judge a HC after one year. If a coach comes into a winning program & has a losing season - I think it's safe to judge him. However, if a coach comes in & continues to win, maybe just not "pretty" enough for some, I'd have to say you are right.

Thanks for the clarification. :hihi: Especially after Saban's last season where all of the games were even uglier than this season's games.

Is placing blame on players off-limits somehow? Seriously... I need to call up some of the local talk shows and ask this question. Miles didn't blow the coverage in the end zone, Steltz did.

Miles wasn't faked out on the pump fake, both Chevis and Laron were.
Miles didn't hold a lineman on a TD pass, Rudy did.

Just like Saban was able to get the attention of kids like Damien James and Demetrius Hookfin? Brad Smalling?

You can't come in as a HC and expect to be completely able to get senior kids used to a different staff to respond to you.

Actually, Ohio State was ranked #5 when they played. And, yes, Playing AZ state was great, but remeber, it was supposed to be a home game. I don't care if we play home or away, I just want us to play anyone that is not a Div-1AA team. It is almost like "padding your stats". We do reside in the toughest and Best Division in College Football, but my point is, we have to quit playing !-AA schools. What if we won the SECCG and only a few points seperated us and Penn State and TX or USC lost. I like to play the best opponent out there....
