There was a guy from Oregon State on one of the LSU boards a week ago saying that OSU was open on that date and was looking to schedule a home and home. Anyone heard anything about that?
I've heard rumors for several Pac 10 schools. Hadn't heard that one, but I did hear about Washington State, and supposedly that was untrue.
I read in our local rag here in NC that NCSU had a cancellation for the WE of 04 SEpt. That would be an interesting matchup. Whose responsibility is it to reschedule?
If true, that'd be a good matchup but, wow, what a tough sched. that'd give NCSU. I think they still have Ohio State this year as well as Fla St and Miami. LSU absolutely needs to find a good to very good major conference school (as Va Tech was) for that date. No question.
Don't expect a major program to be scheduled. It is never as easy as finding an opponent with an open date. Any football program from any of the major conferences will want a home and home series, and I doubt the higher ups will want to give up a home date in the forseeable future because there isn't another 12 game season for a while. Economically speaking it is better to play a cupcake at home. Also keep in mind that the schedules are set many years in advance, so it might be difficult to even schedule a return trip.
Rich Tellshow had a 1-3 record for W. Illinois. So I am assuming they beat a Div I-A school somewhere along the line, and lost 3 games total all season. So what you stated would be correct. In addition, the Opps Opps for W. Illinois computed to a 12-48 record. That hurt just as much. Believe me, LSU will NEVER EVER schedule a Div-I AA school again. Thank goodness W. Illinois had a good record, had it lost a couple of more games, that could have been the difference in SOS that would have vaulted USC past LSU for #2 in the BCS. Lesson learned.
Nobody wants to lose big time in their opening game. LSU will only get a marginal team to fill that void.
Hey, I agree that we don't want them on the schedule, I'm just saying they don't hurt or help your strength of schedule.
