I can't recall a single instance, during Saban's tenure, of a player saying anything close to what that young punk said. While I hate to criticize individual players, this guy is cleary a spoiled brat, he needs to meet LaRon Landry coming across the middle to humble him !
matter of fact...the only thing negative I remember about an LSU player under Saban was the incident last year with Damien James, and Nick handled it with class and it disapeared. I still do not know why he left (or was kicked off)the team.
Boy what a way to set an example. Benching a guy a little bit for the up coming game against Syracuse...What a risk...
His "temper Tantrum" or "roid rage" as I heard it called as well, is a reflection of himself only. What a person says should not reflect on anyone else. I don't expect my wife, family, or coworkers to be held accountable for anything I say. They may take offense and be troubled by it, but it is not a reflection of them. In my eyes Kellen Winslow, Jr is the only one that looks bad.
What?!? Are you saying that what your kids say does not reflect on you as a parent at all? Winslow is a SUBORDINANT! His coaches are his authority figures. If he cannot act with class (while wearing a University of Miami uniform, in the University of Miami locker room) it is absolutely a reflection of all of his mentors. Thats right, coaches, teachers, parents, the whole nine. It blows my mind that you dont think this way. If someone working for me was slappy drunk while working for a client, you can damn well expect his ass to be fired on the spot. Why? Because he is a reflection of me and my company.
Nuttie, when a cop beats your ass on a routine traffic stop...Do you only sue him? Or do you sue the Police Department too? You sir, are missing the forest for the sake of the trees. The only reason that Mr. Winslow, Jr., is there is that the University of Miami thought enough of him that it wanted him to help represent them on the field and help them win games for the University. Part of playing college football is good sportsmanship, learning humility, and learning that you are not an individual, but you are part of something much bigger than a future NFL career, an offense, or a football team. You are a reflection on those around you, and anyone who tells you different is just not thinking clearly. ENRON is synonymous with corporate greed and corporate corruption. But, there were probably plenty of middle management, and upper level CEO's who had no idea that the greed and corruption were so widespread. Go ask them what it's like to have that name on their resume. To wake up and realize that the actions of their co-workers cost people's life savings, their well-being, their very sense of self! I'm sure potential employers just think like you do, right? Suuuuuuuure they do! Playing on a college football team should teach skills like common decency, responsibility, teamwork, togetherness, and being responsible for your actions in light of the fact that you represent something more than just yourself. I'm sorry you don't realize that. You should really stop and take a look at what the vast majority of collegiate athletes do with their lives. Then realize that regardless of whether players like Winslow use Miami or LSU or another school as a minor league to the big show and Sundays...the lessons to be learned are still as valuable and meaningful, and his actions can still speak just as poorly about a team, school, and mentality amongst his teammates whether he speaks for himself or not. If you have bad service at a Chili's in Baton Rouge, you'll probably avoid them altogether, based on that experience, regardless of location. It's the same principle involved with Winslow and the reasoning behind why people think he's just a spoiled brat, but also that the U of Miami has made a habit of winning with those types of bad individuals... You know the saying about laying down with dogs...
This kind of discipline sends a message that is all that will happen to me, I can live with it. DiNardo sold out with Kevin Faulk when he should have left Kevin home for that Houston game. Winslow will enter the game if his replacement is not performing or when the hurrigangs are in a bind. I have no idea how Nick would handle this, I’d like to think he would put his a$$ on suspension and couldn’t travel or dress with the team for a minimum of two games. I know what Lou Holtz would do. Say what you want, he has already done it and set the example for others to follow. It takes dong gongs to suspend your top two RB’s from playing in the orange bowl. You gotta love that!
Nothing against Landry, but I'd like for Winslow to meet Lionel Turner across the middle. While Landry would give Winslow whiplash, Turner would bury him 6 feet under.
