If John Edwards' political career is done, why isn't John McCain's? John McCain had a well-documented affair on his first wife, with his current wife. He has admitted in the books he has written about his life that he ran around with several different women while still married to his first wife. And don't forget that he left her for a younger, richer woman - multi-millionaire Cindy Hensley who is now Cindy McCain - after she had been severely hurt in a car accident. So, why are McCain's actions any more excusable than Edwards'?
No one said they were excusable. McCain wasn't running for President and Carol McCain wasn't terminally ill at the time. The car accident was 10 years before the affair
Sabanfan ,I couldn't have said it better myself...all those wishing to take a shot a di on one side...all those for camilla on the other...i think i would have been in the LOOOONNNNGGGG line.
Its not excusable, but McCain had just been released from 5 and a half years of torture and hopelesness at the hands of the North Vietnamese. That might make you act a little irrationally at times. And as was astutely pointed out, McCain wasn't running for President or on the short list for VP.
What they said. The biggest thing is that he flat out LIED about it when questioned, during a Presidential campaign, no less. That's what is inexcusable.
how does edwards affair stack up to newt gingrich having an affair and asking his wife while she was in the hospital recovering from cancer surgery for a divorce?
I didn't realize Newt was or has ran for president! Like another poster said, I believe once you lie to the media they will no longer go to war with you, that is an un-pardonable sin! I don't totally know if his career is over, I think it is but you never know about people on the left, they can almost do anything and get away with it. People on the right resign or are lynched for the same type of activities.
Or Trent Lott . . . or David Vitter . . . or Mark Foley . . . or Bob Allen . . . or Dan Crane. The republican sex scandal list is quite long. Obama may be the only politician in Washington keeping his Johnson in his pants.
not trying to. just trying to point out that this kind of thing goes on across the spectrum. and that if we hold those on one side accountable for their actions, we must hold those on the other side accountable. personally, i see it the same as gingrich.
