Zinger is out sick, so that means the coaches feel Dickson is the best available player. I don't have a problem with a Fr. starting.
Hell freshman or not, Dickson looks to be an upgrade to me. That was a great catch he made, and I thought he blocked pretty well.
He was inconsistent, but he played pretty well considering that defense & environment. He was really good in some parts and below average in others. He did have a few dropped passes, but he also had a lot more yardage and completions due to AU giving the receivers tons of room on the last drive just so they wouldn't get a TD thrown against them (which they almost did anyway). He did throw those passes well. He also had a careless fumble which we were lucky to recover in the first half. On the bright side, he had no INTS., so that was good and I think his biggest asset this year so far. However, JR had tons of time to throw the ball and he had two hours to throw the ball anywhere on that sack he took. That was INEXCUSABLE. I believe we could have scored had he not wasted all that precious time. He is a junior, yet he still won't throw the ball away sometimes in crucial situations. Then, be basically almost did the same thing on one of the next plays. He finally threw it and it went to a guy about five yards in front of him. The game would have been over had the clock not stopped for a penalty so we could spike it. It was awful decision making. Also, he just doesn't throw the long ball that well consistently. Sure, he can throw it 95 yards, but will it be near anyone. He overthrew a wide open receiver on a bomb, and had a terrible pass on 4th down when "the call" was made. I realize he didn't have any running game, so you can't blame him for everything because the plays that were called were suspect. Our guys need to catch a little better sometimes as well. But he also needs to work on his fakes. Cox is a better QB in his system because he does everything well, especially faking on play action. We didn't know who had the ball. That's part of the only reason they scored on us once. JR doesn't sell his fakes enough. Even if you’re running game is going nowhere, you still must sell your fakes. It helped Auburn’s to get going. Hopefully, he learned something this game and will become a consistently great QB. Until then, he's a good QB to me. Stats don't mean anything in many cases. I do think he's a great competitor though. I just think he needs to gain a little more sense of urgency sometimes.
Russell played well and he never got rattled. He made some mistakes and did not score any TD's to go with his 247 yards passing, but he will not have to face a defense like this one again this season. However he will face some other very good ones.
To the mentally deficient, anonymous idiot that gave me red saying this was a stupid post, please explain how it's stupid. You may not agree with me but that doesn't make it stupid. My thinking JR played a fine game isn't stupid. There were indeed 5 drops of which 4 would have continued drives, so that can't be stupid. The sack at the end was, indeed, unfortunate and, again in my opinion, I thought he tried too hard to make a play there, so I don't think that's stupid. The fact that anyone can pick out a bad play here and there has been proven out about 2000 times on this board since yesterday, so that's not a stupid observation. Complimenting Auburn's defense certainly can't be considered stupid. So what was it? Crawl out of the floorboard of anonymity and tell me exactly what made it a "stupid post".
plus it was 20 of 35, not 37 and 1 incomplete was the spiked ball and another 2 the lafell PI probably would have been caught and possibly the doucet if we are going to nitpick. theres 8 of the 15 incompletes accounted for.
Wasn't me, I actually agree with you for once. JR made a couple of bonehead plays but overall played a really good game especially considering the level of competition and zero running game.
