my thoughts EXACTLY......of course all the trick plays and going for it on 4th down weren't really necessary, HOWEVER, that was the last game of the season i.e. their last chance to have fun.....get over it U

    Re: A couple of thoughts...

Wrong. The two teams entered from tunnels at opposite ends of the field. Separate areas are assigned to football teams specifically to prevent "misunderstandings".

It's a football game. You play it until it's over. We should have stopped Miami in '88, Miami should have stopped LSU Friday night. The object is to win the game, right? Spurrier taught everyone in the SEC that you never let a beaten opponent back into the game. Why should a team be sorry for dominating an opponent?

There 4 minutes left, not 1 minute. That is too early to quit playing football. Not to mention that the fake punt failed and did not lead to any points, so this "running up the score" nonsense is simply not the case.

No. Miles called the successful 3rd-quarter fake FG. He called for a punt on the 4th-quarter play which was nowhere close to field goal range, but the punting team changed it.

Why not? The play happened in the first game when the punter read the defense and saw that the right gunner was uncovered. As he was taught, he signalled the gunner and completed a pass for a first down. It was an audible by the punter, but it was a coached play.

The controversy was that he called it when he was punting out of his own endzone! Miles admitted that conservative coaches did not want to risk the fake under those particular circumstances and were surprised when the punter called the audible. On the other hand, it worked perfectly, and such poor field position sometimes makes a defense gamble and leave a man uncovered.

The punter last Friday thought that the defense gave them a chance to make a first down, keep control of the ball, and end the game quickly and mercifully. Miami's amazing team speed kept that from happening and the botched fake actually gave Miami a short field for a scoring drive. LSU took a risk, lost it, and gave Miami an advantage. I can't imagine why that should be a problem for them. But they failed to actually score, and LSU took knees when they got the ball back.

    Re: Playing devil's advocate here...

Wasn't Les Miles calling the offensive plays during the Peach Bowl? I remember it was reported everywhere that he was going to be calling the plays. Any truth to this?

Jimbo Fisher called the offensive plays, as usual. Miles probably called the special team plays.

I am not going to pull quotes out of your post because it is long - but - I agree with you on all points. You coach your team to play from start to finish whatever the score is. Even when you put in reinforcements (not subs), they are to play hard. I have never seen a practice on any level where the coach is stressing to his team to not play every play like like it mattered.

The game was great and the rhetoric expressed by some leads me to believe that the complainers will always complain instead of treasuring the moment.

People get wrapped up in half truths, innuendos, myths and speculation instead of waiting for the facts.

A season like this only happens occasionally. Right now we graduate quality talent, but the present reserves and new recruits should mold into the system. I think we have a few good years ahead for LSU football. However, with age comes wisdom and someday the pendulum will swing to the left. When this happens we must not abandon the team, we struggle through the lean years (such as were not really to far behind us), reminisce about years like 2005, and wait for that pendulum swing again.

For now, as always, I'm proud to be a tiger.
