no, but everyone was watching those days so they did it. espn doesnt care. i think he was probably going to michigan and became extremely upset that michigan leaked some information, not to mention the timing of it. he was stuck in a bad spot and that probably swayed his position. but that didnt mean he didnt love lsu at the time. and he was probably torn in the first place which is why a small, leaked story can change everything.
i'm not saying he hated LSU. but home is home. and if the roles were reversed and miles' alma mater is LSU and he's at michigan, i'd want him to feel compelled to come here.
oh i know. i was agreeing with you. coaches make big decisions all the time..we came out on top..."it is what it is"
Since the other rumor flying on that day was that John Teneta would be joining Les Miles at Michigan, I suspect that Tenuta was Herbstreit's source. That might also explain why Tenuta did not get a job offer from Les.
Despite all evidence to the contrary. There were credible reports that Miles had agreed to stay at LSU before they arrived in Atlanta. That Miles was informed that he would get a new contract with a substantial increase, but they needed his answer now. Now, whether he was not happy with the terms and conditions he had been tenatively offered at Mich, or whatever, who knows.
Michigan people had the exact same stories for their school. Miles and George Bass are the only two that know exactly what was happening at that time. I doubt Bass was passing along accurate information to all parties during those weeks.
Les and his agent, Jimmy Sexton, both stated on the record that they had expected an offer from Michigan but Michigan was apparently waiting until after the SECCG. Sexton tried to get to someone at Michigan and find out about the offer, but no one was available to talk. Les needed to decide before the game was played and before the offer from LSU was withdrawn. He made the smart choice. Michigan played it badly. I'm not sure Les would have gone, but I think he wanted to get the formal offer from his Alma Mater to compare to LSU's.
We'll find out the real story when Miles writes his memoirs after retiring with his 5 national championships.:geaux:
