Same thought here. Like I posted yesterday when he was mentioned, he is a good young up and comer, but it's a real reach to take him at this point in his career. He has great potential, but you didn't here his name linked to any other jobs even when young up and coming coaches were preferred.

Potential coaches were scared off by either the severe mess in the AD's office or the potential for NCAA probation. Either way IMO Tennessee rushed the hire when the need to get it right was much more important. I do like Dooley, but he may be in over his head. He needed more time and experience.

Don't know what it's like being a coach regarding the AD office so don't know if that was a problem or not (I tend to doubt it until I see something convincing).

As for potential for NCAA probation, I don't see anybody having a problem with that.

They are in meltdown mode on govolsextra. Seems like the bigger problem at Tenn, though, is keeping fb and bb players out of prison.

Just got off the phone after a quick call.

    Me: Is it Dooley?

Him: Not 100% but they are working out details.

Me: Why would Hammy go after Dooley?

Him: He's the only one who would take the job.

The AD is probably on his way out. It's never a good thing to be a coach that was hired by another AD especially the cash cow football. If you think problems in the AD's office don't influence a potential coach's decision you're crazy.:insane:

Uh, that earns a double :insane::insane:

Dooley seemed like a good fit at Tech and seemed to have things going in a positive direction. (dont know to much about the Tech program admittedly)

I think he might be in over his head at Tenn. Time will tell.

"Derek is exactly what I hoped he would be," said NFL Hall of Famer Terry Bradshaw. "As far as I am concerned, he has exceeded everyone's expectations...He is making people stand up and take notice of Louisiana Tech....I could not be more proud to have him as our AD and our football coach."

Derek Dooley learned under his father, a College Football Hall of Fame SEC Coach. up until he went to college. He even helped led his high school to a 1985 State Championship in football.

Then in college ('87-'90 WR at UVA) he learned under College Football Hall of Fame Coach George Welsh (who was U.S. Naval Academy Class of '56, an All-American QB, and a coach for Joe Paterno for 10 years, and then was 134–86–3 as a head coach of UVA).

Then he graduated law school from Georgia in 1994 and married a girl that is now Dr. Allison Jeffers Dooley, a practicing OBGYN. He practiced law at a private firm in Atlanta for almost two years.

Then he got his first coaching job at Georgia with Jim Donnan, a College Football Hall of Fame coach that was 104–40–1 as an NCAA head coach.

Before Tech hired him, he coached for Saban for 7 years straight (at LSU and then Saban took him with him to the Dolphins). So that's a vote of confidence from a very successful coach that will also probably end of up the College Football Hall of Fame.

He's only 41 and Tech has already made him their AD.

What do you think UT is going to get in trouble for? Bama didn't get in trouble for anything with their scandal. FSU's cheating scandal only lost them 6 scholarships. The news about Tenn with their hostesses is no different from the news in the New York Times that LSU and Texas was doing similar things last year.

Tennessee just found themselves a coach if true. He did a pretty good job this year with the schedule he had and his team wiped out by injury. I also believe he is a good guy. Totally opposite of whats his name. Diamond in the ruff.

Yeah, it influences a decision sure... but making $4/$5 million a year compared to $1 million a year... do you really think it is that big of a deal? You sign a four/five year contract with Tenn for $20 million... that's like hitting the lottery. If I said you could win $20 million if you would just agree to do some job for some boss you weren't sure about, what would you do?
