That wasn't the question. Did Johnson take votes away from Hillary or Trump? Maybe I should have phrased it Former First Bitch
Yes. Votes for Gary Johnson jumped from 1.275 million in 2012 to 4.489 million in 2016 (a 252% increase from election to election). That didn't just come from population growth. It came from people giving the middle finger to the Dems and voting third party. Also, Jill Stein got 1.45 million votes in 2016. That's up from 469,000 votes in 2012 (a 209% increase) In Florida, the margin of victory for Trump was 112,911 votes. Johnson got 207,043 votes (nearly double the margin of victory). He siphoned away enough votes from the Dems to give Trump the win.
I think he siphoned away some potential Trump voters. My brother voted for him even though he hates Hillary. I told him he was throwing his vote away and if she got elected it was his fault.
This is true. I voted Libertarian in 2016 when I voted Republican in every previous election, so Johnson did steal some votes from Trump. But more votes were stolen from the Dems in 2016 than the GOP. As for the Green party, very little of them would have voted for Trump in the first place. That increase of nearly 1 million votes from 2012 to 2016 were votes that could have gone to the Dems if they didn't have such a shitty candidate.
I don’t know that I would agree with this. Libertarians, tend to be fiscal conservatives, and are usually counted as a potential GOP vote. I’m Libertarian, and Is NEVER vote Democrat in today’s field because socialism goes completely against the Libertarian view. But ... hey, if you got some data to back that up, .....
