If I remember correctly his life story didn't have any help from the government. I hate that about some politicians. They brag about their poor childhood, fighting to make it, and succeeding with no government help. But I guess everyone else needs help.

Bachelor's degree from Columbia and then on to Harvard Law. I don't think you pay for that with Pell grants and a job working the counter at McDonald's.

i dunno what you guys mean, but i was talking about how he addressed "problems" like outsourcing and how to solve them. outsourcing cannot be solved by the government except by leaving businesses and people alone.

He mentioned needing to provide every American with the opportunity to go to college. Anyone who has the grades and the desire can go to college. Not Columbia or Harvard, but somewhere. The need is to inspire them to want to do it and educate them as to how to use the resources available. Goes back to what Bill Cosby was saying.

right, but it isnt the government's job to inspire anyone or present them with an opportunity to go to college.

right, it isn't the government's job to inspire anyone to take advantage of the opportunities it has made available to attend college. not everyone can afford a college education, but if they are capable and have the desire to obtain that education, i have no problem with the government providing grants and low interest loans, as long as they go to people who truly need them.

although the government has provided the opportunity. the problem is people like Obama keep preaching the opportunity isn't there in order to win votes by promising they will provide that opportunity. They aren't going to win votes by saying it is already there. Obama, Sharpton, Jackson and others who have influences in urban areas should be using their time inspire and educate. Instead they are covering up the truth to win votes for their party.
