I understand what you are saying. I'm saying that there is nothing deceptive about emotional appeals based on a tragedy. The tragedy is the basis of her political agenda, don't you understand that?
Attempting to persuade people by emotion vs. shaping their opinion with facts. In circumstances where people are undecided, uninformed, or really don't care enough to do the work it takes to make an informed decision on their own, an apparent emotional appeal can be very powerful and persuasive. But, I agree with Red to an extent, because I think people who are weak-minded and lazy enough to allow their opinions to be shaped through emotion and pity are just as much to blame.
I'd bet when this challenge was made there were all of 12 people in the chamber and 8 of them were pages. The Chamber is generally empty except when there is a vote. When you see Congressmen giving speeches and being all fiery in the chamber on TV they are usually talking to the walls and trying to get press. Congressmen have way to much to do to sit in session all day.
I disagree. I think using her son's death as a vehicle for her political agenda is unethical and sleezy, even to a degree that republicans do not dip and yet we see it so often with Liberals. And it is with the consistency that liberals use it that makes it deceptive IMO, because they cannot achieve their goals using logic and facts, they resort to this.
Yea, it's not like we pay them for it or anything... Much rather them be out getting money on the side for catering to special interest! :thumb:
You've never had a loved one die, have you? It is a life-changing experience, amigo. I can see that you just don't get it, but you will someday. Ones political agenda is formed by ones life experiences, you know, it is very naive to imagine she isn't entitled to use the example of her own experience. Her reasons for feeling the way she does are no more unethical and sleazy than the reasons you have for feeling the way you do. But they are a hell of a lot easier to understand. How about using the threat of mythical WMD's to take a nation to war? How about sliming a decorated war veteran because they disagreed with his politics? How about planting a rumor that John McCain has an illegimate black daughter? How about leaking a CIA agent for political purposes? How about counterfeiting a photo of Kerry with Jane Fonda that never happened? The Republicans sleaze merchants are all around and you are still blind to them. I challenge you to document this ridiculous statement that won't hold water. First of all, liberals are actually achieving their goals and may take back Congress in the fall. Secondly many democrats are scoring major points against the administration by using the logic and facts of the the Iraq war debacle, the deficit, the failed policies, etc., etc. Sheehan's war casualty argument may disturb you because it is emotional, but casualties are nevertheless a fact.
Someone dying wouldn't change my political stance. The woman is entitled to do whatever she wants, freedom of speech after all, just like I'm entitled to be disguisted by her antics. No matter what you say, I view her as pure sleeze. First of all, I think there is truth in what came out about Kerry's service. Secondly, I never denied Republicans were sleezy. They are sleezy in the same way that all politicians are sleezy. Liberals have their own brand of sleeze that particularly disturbs me. I'm not a Republican and can point out the flaws of both sides, we just happen to be talking about this particular flaw with Liberals. If democrats take back Congress (and this is still a big if), it will be because the Republicans screwed up big time. The democrats have done nothing to deserve it other than not being in power & thus not being able to make the mistakes republicans have made.
First of all the document today found in al Zarqawi's hideout explains that they believe they are losing. Let me get this straight......the DEM's think we're losing but the enemy thinks we're winning. I bet you can't even see how sick and revolting that is. And that my friend is why the DEM's will not win back Congress. People see through DEM's like cheap socks. They have introduced no alternatives to anything....literally, NOTHING but sit there and hope for the worst so they can attempt to win back Congress. Like I've said before, if I had to sit and hope for bad news to attack Bush on, I couldn't look at myself in the mirror. But Dean and the DEM's eat it up. That is why they can't win elections. And for the most part, since the end of Nam, they have lost control of their party, the governorships, the presidency and Congress.
