1. That's precisely the response I expect from someone who has nothing relevant to add.

In your particular case, however, I'd say you had absolutely nothing of substance to say in the first place, which is why your fellow LSU fans aren't touching this one with a ten-foot pole.
  2. Prussian Sooner...In essence, you corrected him on the timeline...and that was in reference to the collective events that sum up the "trail of tears" reference in American History...

I will be honest...Did you ever refute the fact that the term "Sooner" connotates a negative reference to people who sought to illegally circumvent the rules and regulations set forth for them to obtain their land...Which was free in the first damn place?

I'm a history major...though the expansion of the West was never my forte...I'm not afraid to admit that the person who added nothing to the thrust of the argument was you...

You're like the highly paid consultant who gets paid tens of thousands of dollars to point out what your shipping and receiving department minimum wage workers could have told you was a problem.

You sorted out a timeframe...You never refuted the fact your mascot symbolizes those that used illegal means to achieve an 'allegedly' honest end...

I'm doing my best to "reach out and touch this" and I don't even have the kids gloves on...

    :)
  3. Who really gives a rats *ss! Somebody had to be the first to stake a claim. The Boomers were a little later than the Sooners. Hey, that has a nice ring to it Boomer....Sooner! I like it. Let's try it again. Boomer....Sooner!!! Yes, I think we are on to something here with substance. Now, can we talk about the game and not some lame *ss talk about how a nick name came about. However, now that I think of it, how did LSU become the tiggers? Were there tiggers in Louisiana...besides the zoos? Or is that some kind of Cajun stir fru or something?
  4. "I would sooner poop my pants than be a Oklahomo fan"
  5. Well tigernut, since the Sooners are palying your Tigers in the SB, I think it's time to put up or shut up. Let me know when your done or I would expect to hear you yelling Boomer Sooner the rest of the way.
  6. THANKS, TE!
  7. Boomer....Sooner!

I must say that of all the stupid s%&t that people say in this world.........boomer sooner has to be the worst thing I have ever heard.
    Hideous. An embarrassment. Repulsive.
Anyone one who says this, sounds like a f%^&*n' idiot.
    Don't you people know this?
  8. To answer your question about our mascot and Nickname, during the Civil War a regiment of La. Troops called Zouaves fought in one of the battles and turned the tide of battle in favor of the Confederates. Upon the conclusion of the battle, one of the participating generals commented that the La. troops "fought like Tigers" and hence forth they were known as the La. Tigers.
Now you know why I'd rather be a Tiger than a criminal.

    GEAUX TIGERS!!!!

  9. As I stated earlier, of course I didn't refute who the sooners were. I never intended to refute it, I've never had anyone insist that I do so (until now), and I don't know a single person who would refute it, for it is an established fact.

Mike's argument isn't about the definition of 'sooner.' Instead he argues (err, flames) that the historical definition of sooner and its use as OU's mascot implies a systemic corruptness to OU's football program...a tired and baseless argument.

Instead of me refuting the definition of Sooner, I'd like to see Mike establish, with fact, his silly argument.

Actually, our mascot, in spite of its historical meaning, has come to celebrate and symbolize all those who settled Oklahoma.

I don't know why 'Sooners' was chosen over 'Boomers.' That nickname was established well before my time, and well before the time my grandfather listened to Walter Kronkite call Sooner games on the radio during the Depression.

The irony of who the Sooners were in Oklahoma history is lost on no one, especially opposing fans. Yet it certainly doesn't mean that the 'land thieves' of 1889 (1891/1893, etc.) translates into a systemically criminal football program that won 7 national titles via dubious means, which again, is Mike's real argument....(or is it a flame?).
  10. gulfdude, it's just a matter of perspective. tigger bait isn't exactly something that is extremely intelligent. Neither is the trojan cheer of "wrap that rascal". But, thanks for addind some more controversy. It was starting to get boring.
