I definitely agree, but at the same time glad for the law (if that makes any sense) It's the reason I wear my seat belt, so I'm grateful for that. For the most part, I think the goverment has too much control of our lives.
Previous law required evidence of medical insurance, in addition to liability, in order to ride w/ out a helmet. Head injuries in motorcycle crashes result in immediate death or a lifetime of medical care. I really don't like the idea of the State paying tens of thousands of dollars each year for life support, the health insurance matter was a good idea. The financial side trumps free will. Now the law requires a helmet. My prayers go out to the victims in Florida. I forget now, was there any mention if they were wearing helmets? Uh, cracklin is not bad for you... If you would have said wheat, rice, and sugar then you would be on the right track. Those are the really evil foods that need to be banned. Thank you, from your resident low carb nut job.
Actually, you were right the first time. Smoking is is a major contributor to many of the common cancers (eg, lung, colon, bladder, etc) as well as lower respiratory diseases (emphysema, pneumonia, etc.) In addition, it is a major causative factor in heart disease and stroke. Thus, it is a many splendored, equal opportunity thing. Sorry to interject this in this forum, but wouldn't want anyone getting the wrong impression.
Well for what ever reason this happened at a bad time for me. Lets start this thread that number ine I am exhausted and only read MAYBE the first three or so posts. One of my closet friends was killed Thurs. morning. he wasn't wearinf a helmet which when he really went riding he always did. he was running to the office and just decided to go. To give the whole story in cliff notes (cuz we all know I am so good at that:grin: ) The women didn't see hima nd from what the police said he did everything right. He hit the breaks and tried to lie the bike down. Because of her speed she actually "jumped" over the bike and ran over him. Nothing a helnot would have done to save him. I agree that most situations the helmet could have helped but I can honestly say I don't know how I feel about this law today. As (I think) Martin said does the gov. have to babysit us that much either way? <<OT:admtitting drunk and upset post!!!>> Edit: He died like we always joked he would. I hurts me but he went the way he wanted, but not honeslty doing exactly what he wanted!
If you truly believe financial trumps free will, then you should be all for the government banning tobacco, alcohol and unhealthy foods since those things cost the state much more than people dying (or injured) in motorcycle and car accidents. FYI ... Foster repealed the helmet law in 1999, but Blanco put it back in 2004.
I saw a wreck a couple of weeks ago and if the rider had not been wearing a full face helmet she would be dead. She hit the back of a car and landed face first on the road. Her full face helmet was destroyed in the front and she had a broken arm, but she walked out of the hospital the next day. If she had not been wearing a helmet, then a lot of brains and blood would have been on Hwy 90.
