Agreed. I'm sorry to hijack this thread with something that belongs in free speech, but whatever happened to free will? People who ride motorcycles know the risks involved. I don't think a law to 'force' people wear helmets is necessary. If I don't want to wear a helmet, it might not be the smartest decision in the world, but it should be my choice, not the governments.

It was destined for that anyway.

Please name me one law that would remain in your ideal world?

I would normally agree with you two on this...and in a way, I do. But it is the parish or city police and firefighters that have to deal with the aftermath of crash sites involving people who chose not to wear helmets...and I think they should have some say so in this debate.

FWIW, I FULLY agree that the state SHOULDN'T have to tell people not to do dumb things.

The law has been changed back for some time now, the no helmet law didn't last very long at all.

As a rider myself, I can tell you it's not the extra time it takes to put on a helmet that deters most people, it's the feeling of freedom without one. For the record, I do wear one, but I can tell you it's much more enjoyable to ride without one. Remember, we're talking full helmets here, not half shells.

prayers to their families. in high speed crashes like this sometimes wearing the helmet won't save their lives but where wearing a helmet really comes in is getting hit by bugs in your face which could cause the driver to make sudden moves causing a crash. i always whore my helmet but got hit in the arms and shoulders by big bugs that actually caused welps on me. foster changed the law so you didn't need to wear the helmet and blanco changed it back as soon as she got into office. i have two friends that would be dead if not for wearing a helmet but also have one that died and was wearing his helmet.

I'd be willing to bet a very low percentage of accidents are caused by bugs. Most are due to either not being seen by other drivers or careless driving by youngsters with high powered sport bikes. I myself drive a sportbike and if you don't respect them, it can get ugly fast.

Just because you're wearing a helmet doesn't mean you're NOT going to wreck. I don't see whether or not wearing a helmet is going to prevent a first responder from having to deal with the aftermath.
