I think $178 at the window. I never pay that however. I have connections and I now have what's called a silver pass because I am so freaking old. Basically I ski for about $45 per day. Silver pass is $580 for the season and I ski 12 to 15 days. I have a friend that can get a 9 day pass for $600 thats $60 A day. I help my friends get that pass. What I love about Aspen is there are never lift lines, 4 mountains to ski, the base elevation is low at 7200', the food in Aspen is great and if you avoid the jet setters, trust fund kids and the Holywood crowd its a fabulous place to ski.
Damn!! $45 is a hell of a deal. Back in the '70s when I arrived at the AFA & learned to ski, we pretty much skied at Ski Cooper near Leadville. It was a small area, super cheap w/military discount, great snow conditions, & the most you had to wait to get back on the lift was a couple of minutes.
Almost died near Leadville. Lost control of my car on a curve on Tennessee Pass heading to I-70. Wound up sitting atop the gaurd rail 4 feet away from a 1000 foot drop to the valley floor. Only doing 40 mph but hit black ice concealed by 1 inch of fresh snow. 10 mph faster I would have went over the cliff.
All happened so fast had no idea I was in mortal danger. The rest of the story is it took 2 wreckers to get me off the gaurd rail and ironically the first vehicle to come to my rescue was a sand truck. Had he come 45 seconds earlier and sanded that curve probably no accident. The highway patrol guy was an asshole. He kept insisting it was my fault. Checked me for alcohol and drugs found none and I think he was disappointed. My Texas license plate may have been an issue, they hate Texans in CO for some reason. He finally agreed it was weather related and didn't write me a ticket but I could tell he wanted to. The silver lining was the wrecker guy who brought me to Avon had called ahead and got me a room at the Comfort Inn. Told me he was connected to an auto repair shop and he would come get me in the morning. 8am next morning he picks me up brings me to Avon Auto Body Shop. The driver told them I was headed to Aspen to ski the night of the accident. When we got there the auto shop had my ski gear in a loaner car and told me to keep it for $12 a day and pick up my fixed car when my ski trip was over. Didn't miss one day of skiing. True story.
Nice to hear about the hospitality extended to you. As far as Texas tourists, a lot of them bring an "attitude" with them. A lot of them think they're better than anyone else & act accordingly.
Not with you on the Texas attitude thing. Actually in my view it was the opposite. Also I found that the Colorado people hated the oil industry and didn't mind telling us that. My buddies and I actually did have attitude; let those hypocrites freeze in the dark.
I was born in SE TX & raised across the border in SW LA. I had a lot of contacts with Texans growing up. I spent two years stationed in the Texas Panhandle, where you would think Texans would be mild mannered & rather conservative. A lot of my wife's relatives are Texan's and most of them fit the stereotype. I've met & gotten to know a lot of Texan's who are great people. Unfortunately, that number is offset by a large number who are truly a**holes.
A holes everywhere but you can't brand one whole state because of some. Colorado has an equal share just a different type of a hole but a holes just the same.
