Spent "quality time" in Boulder in the early 70's. When I stopped playing ball I skied more and met a CU girl from Boulder at Arapaho Basin. Total hippie free spirit and a knockout brunette. Followed her back to Boulder after skiing and well let's just say we had a nice weekend. Best part was meeting her girlfriends whom she could care less if I "wondered" off with one now and then. She had a part time ski jock boyfriend who came around now and then so it was free love everywhere. The other dudes who hung around this group of babes were no competition cause they were usually too stoned to be of any use to them. I looked hippie dressed hippie but wasn't hippie. I rarely got stoned and faked it 90% of the time. I skied and played with this bunch on and off for 3 years when went up to ski. There wasn't one ugly or fat one in the whole gang. Yes I know Boulder but the 70's Boulder. The girls were not all hung up on PC and wacko environmentalism etc they just wanted to have fun, I obliged them. Then I got married and good bye yellow brick road.
Got a buddy that lives in Castle Rock and loves it there. He says he lives between ridiculous and reality. Denver being ridiculous and Springs being reality.
In 1973 I was stationed at the Academy. We played CU in Boulder. As I recall they beat us by 3 TDs. I went to the game with a bunch of buddies. Given our haircuts & the fact that some of were wearing AF caps we were easy to spot. After the game we received a bunch of sh*t from some CU students. A couple of times it came close to getting ugly. But we made it out without getting into any altercations. That may have been the last time I've been to Boulder.
Yep they didn't like guys who at least didn't have long hair and dress like hippies and certainly didnt like military. Had both the long hair and the clothes but wasn't on board with their agenda. Was ex Air Force and came from a military family. Dad Battle of the Buldge, uncle Bob at Tarawa, brother in Korea. I just wanted the poon so just acted "mellow" and didn't talk politics or much about my past. Those girls were more intersted in having a good time and skiing. I see one of them in Aspen every year she is married to a wealthy real estate guy and lives in Aspen. She aged well and turned out to be more on the conservative side.
