I prefer to consider myself a conservative rather than a republican , even though I vote and am registered republican. Republicans have grown the scope of government just as democrats have. I , as a conservative, would like to see government power reduced.
you said you are glad you are conservative, Im just wondering what benefits it gives you that made you smile.
This is getting fun! This is a great reason why you don't want one party running the entire government...especially the Democrats!!! Obama failed to pass a budget with total control and now reverts to excuses again even though he has NO plan after two years. The fact is they like our money...they want to take our money...they want to spend our money...and they don't want anyone to have a voice or even dare question their decisions or authority. The King needed to be knocked off his throne. Next year he needs to lose his kingdom.
Are you a 1%er? Anyway, Obama has put more on the table than any democrat would, he is one of the most moderate presidents we have seen and you guys act like he is hitler. He is offering cuts in Medicare/socialsecurity, and the GOP won't budge on their campaign funders getting a little tax increase.
I have to admit, as much as I don't want to, that there has been a good faith effort by Obama to cut deeply into some of democrats sacred cows. The republicans want a balanced budget amendment and Obama won't go for it. Obama won't budge on obamacare either. The reps won't budge on raising taxes. They can't. Republican politicians remember what happened to hw bush when he renegad on the "read my lips, no new taxes" pledge. They are in a box with taxes. Obama is in a box with obamacare and the bb amendment. If Obama allows the balanced budget amendment then the reps should allow taxes to be raised to pre gw bush levels. It would be one of the greatest compromises of American history. If Obama won't budge on the BBAmend. or on obamacare than the reps won't budge on taxes. Were all f'ked if they do nothing though. I have to say that the democrats have made a good faith effort. We have to remember why we are here. In the last two and a half years Obama spent record amounts of money. That must stop. The bbamend would be the way to go. Why won't he go for a Balenced Budget Amendment? Reps think all his promises to cut spending is bullsizt without one. Obama and J. B. were both pissed during their seprate press conferences. I could see them throwing down. I bet they argue and rant behind closed doors.
He has stopped compromising in the face of zero compromises from the GOP. The Health Care Law is not at play here. Of course, they can. They are just being obstructionists who say No to everything. Obama offered them 4 $Trillion in spending cuts for 1.2 $Trillion in taxes. The GOP would have made out like bandits for forcing 4 $Trillion in cuts and a 5.2 $Trillion deficit reduction. Instead they walked away. Republicans can't even say yes to a victory. But they don't have an incumbent president! Republican should remember what happened in 1993 when Newt Gingrich's Republicans caused an unnecessary government shutdown to score a political point. Republicans lost big time in the 1994 elections and Clinton was strengthened for re-election. They need moderates to win in 2012 and they are alienating them. The GOP doesn't even want a balanced budget amendment. It would put them in a giant pickle if they happned to win in 2012. This is another political gambit designed to make any compromise fail. They are banking everything on making Obama look bad in this debt limit sillyness. Instead it is backfiring and the GOP doesn't even seem to realize it. It's not the democrats, it is Barrack Obama. Everybody sees it. The GOP is tripping over its pecker on this issue. The American people want the government to work and it is becoming increasingly obvious who is throwing a monkey wrench into the gears . . . over and over. Boehner openly disrespected the President of the United States. There will be consequences. He has likely permanently damaged his relationship with Obama.
Some republican congressmen were saying earlier in the week to repeal obamacare and take back unused money from tarp and the stimulus and the debt limit wouldn't need to be raised. That's where I got the obamacare thing from.
Republican Congressmen are dreaming if they think they can exploit this debt ceiling crisis into getting everything they've ever wanted. :insane:
