1. That's hard to believe. I mean, he's friggin awesome but does he really expect to make more than Manning was due to make last year, brady, rodgers? And if it was offered, why not take it?
  2. Supposedly, the issue is not total value of the package (5-6 years) Like Manning, Brees wants it front-loaded, including 23 mil the first year as opposed to 18 mil (that's the "5 million dollars apart" we've been hearing about). Of course, Brees is younger and healthier than Manning, so he doesn't have the argument for a front-loaded deal that PM has. Then again, every deal Manning has ever gotten has been a record breaker. Brees, as a 2nd round pick and then as a damaged-goods FA, can argue that he's always been underpaid when comparing paycheck to production.
  3. You can MAYBE put Brady and Manning ahead of him as the best QB in the NFL, because they've accomplished more, but Rodgers? No way. Maybe eventually, but not yet.

However, I was listening to the SVP show yesterday on the radio and they had a talking head guest on (can't remember his name) discussing the Brees contract situation, and Ryan Russillo (sp?) asked him who the best QB in the league is; to which the talking head replied 'Over the last 6 years, it's Drew Brees'.

Finally, he's getting that type of respect on a national level. He's always gotten a little respect because he's always in the 'Top 5' discussion, but that's the first national pundit I've heard that called in the best QB in the league over Manning and Brady.

  4. Dear Saints fans, we screwed the pooch again!
  5. yep, Brees is headed to the Cowboys... now let's see if the Saints can at least manage to pay Romo what he wants...
  6. I can't imagine the Saints letting him get away, he's been such a great role model and very involved in the city......c'mon Benson, write the check!
  7. Uh, no he's not. The franchise tag means he's not going anywhere.
  8. What exactly does the franchise tag mean?
  9. It essentially (for this season only) takes the right of free agency away from Brees. In exchange, the team must pay Brees the greater of two options: a. the average salary of the top 5 quarterback contracts for this season, or b. a 20% increase on his 2011 salary. The Saints can still negotiate a multi-year deal with Brees at this point, but if they work one out, they can not turn around and place the franchise tag on another player this season. Only one franchise player per team per season. A team can also use the franchise tag on the same player two seasons in a row, but no more.
