    Indeed.

Remember Crowton always ran a pass-happy spread and folks expected that here. Well, when he found himself at a place with good running backs he took advantage of it, put in a two-back look and established a power running game to go with his passing attack.

Koenning may have not had SEC-caliber speed an talent to work with before.

After watching our defense this year I can't say that I'm enamored with our defensive athletes. I know we've got some good talent but I wouldn't go as far as describing our talent.

:geaux::crystal::helmet: I agree. I think there's a definite dropoff in talent on defense in relation to past years. Patrick Peterson is a bright spot in the defensive backfield and that's it. The LB's are down a notch and the DL is down as well. Still, there's enough talent on defense to be better than their performance this year. Poor coaching and lack of dicipline and direction on defence are responsible for the failure of LSU's defence this year. Chavis or Koenning would have had this group performing much better than Mallaveto. :geauxtige:champs::LSU231:

Ok, for those who boldly stated that Mr. Koenning is a terrific recruiter, you get to the answer the following trivia question:

Of the 26 recruits from last season plus the 8 currrent commitments for the 2009 class, how many were recruited by Vic Koenning?

Man we have a ton of Canadians on this board.
I have seen the word "Defense" spelled Defence several times...

I just wish something would happen.

    Interesting tidbits:

He led Troy's defense to a top-10 national finish in scoring defense, rushing defense, yards per play, and pass efficiency defense in 2004. Troy's defense led the nation in interceptions (25), tied for second in turnovers forced (32), was ninth in fewest yards per play allowed, and 16th in total defense (311.0). Only Southern California had more takeaways than Troy.

The Tigers showed great improvement over the course of the 2005 season, his first at Clemson. The defense allowed 11.5 points per game in the last seven games, a big reason the Tigers went 6-1 in those contests. During that stretch, the defense held #16 Florida State (coached by Bobby Bowden) and #19 South Carolina (coached by Steve Spurrier) without an offensive touchdown. He became the first defensive coordinator to keep those two noted offensive minds without a touchdown in the same season.

A highlight in 2006 took place during Clemson's 31-7 win over #13 Georgia Tech. The Tiger secondary held Georgia Tech All-American and #2 overall draft pick Calvin Johnson without a reception for the only time in his collegiate career. Clemson finished 13th in the nation in total defense, its highest mark since the 1991 team finished fourth.

In just three short years, Vic Koenning has accomplished something no other Clemson defensive coordinator has accomplished in Tiger football history. Each of his first three defenses has finished in the top 25 in scoring, rushing, total, and pass efficiency defense each season. A top-25 final ranking in all four categories in the same year had been accomplished just twice prior to his arrival.

Time is up. Thanks Okie for the sound effects. Very nice touch.

The answer is 2. Well, for clarification, he had a partial hand in the recruitment of 2 of the 34 aforementioned players.

    Thanks for playing.

We all know that Swinney, formerly the receivers coach, and defensive coordinator Vic Koenning didn’t get along for whatever reason. But there’s no logic behind firing Koenning. Simply put, relieving a good coach is just flat-out stupid. ... Koenning's defenses were consistently great.
