Koenning sat down with Swinney on Tuesday but was told his future was uncertain after the bowl game, and he decided to resign in order to find another job sooner. Swinney replaced Tommy Bowden, who hired Koenning after the 2004 season from Troy. "I am going to need a job," Koenning said. "I did throw my keys on the table at Clemson. As good as we've been on defense at Clemson, I didn't like how I was being treated."

I didn’t feel, for what we accomplished… Nine weeks in a row of not allowing 200 yards of passing, four seasons in the top 20 in total defense and the top 16 in scoring defense? For them not to be able to make a commitment to me, I didn’t think that was right. But it’s the new coach’s call, 100 percent, to make his call, and I’m not spiteful. But I would have hoped the administration would have said something… It’s like when you have beautiful roses in the garden. If you have a few weeds, you don’t cut down the rose bushes along with the weeds, too.

Nice breakdown, and an excellent comparison against the common opponent. I'd also be intersted to know how Clemson's talent compared with Tenn's as far as players ranked out of high school, just to see who is doing more with less. Either way both candidates are comparable, with VK having the edge on recruiting.

Just my 2 pennies worth, but wasn't it reported somewhere Koenning and Dabo had philosophical differences? At any rate, that's Dabo's call. As an outsider's perspective, Koenning doesn't look like a bad fit at LSU.

O does not look like a good fit at any position. I think whoever wrote it was correct as far as the Miles-O relationship.

At least it seems wheels are in motion, and that's a good thing.

:geaux::crystal::helmet: Great post and comparision against a common opponent. I have been a Chavis supporter up to this point but can see why Koenning would be a popular choice. The video posted in a previous post showed a lot of intensity and aggression by Clemson's defence. Wouldn't mind seeing more of that from the Tiger defence. Also like the fact that Koenning is an enthusiastic recruiter and appears to have a fiery personality to hopefully match his defence. If he is in fact CLM's choice, so be it and let's move on. Just do it quickly 'cause times awaistin'. Don't see why this decision, if it's a done deal, would have to wait until after the bowl game. Seems to me the sooner a decision is made the better that is for all concerned. IMO, that's particularly crucial as far as recruiting goes. Those kids need/want to know who's going to be in charge. Course, maybe CLM is telling them who the DC is and it's just us that don't know.:hihi: Anyway if this is the choice, so be it. I'm still not convinced this guy (Koenning) is a better choice than Chavis though. If they play a similar defensive style, I possibly would still lean toward the guy who knows the SEC better. The major difference appears to be that Koenning recruits and Chavis doesn't. Just sayin'. :geauxtige:champs::LSU231:

I think they realize the writing is on the wall. At the minimum Miles has let them know there will be changes. Even if he hasn'tyYou can't have the defensive let down we had last season and not know there is something going to be done.

Both Clemson and Tenn played South Carolina this year:

Tenn D held Gamecocks to 4.0 yards/play in 64 plays
Clem D held Gamecocks to 4.2 yards/play in 73 plays

    Tenn D held Cocks to:
    --two TDs
    --two FGs (31-yard, 31-yard)

    Clemson D held Cocks to:
    --two TDs
    --no FGs

    Tenn D had 1 interception
    Clemson D had 4 interceptions

    Tenn D had 1 sack
    Clemson D had 1 sack

Rivals currently does not rate anyone from South Carolina a 5-star.

The only 5-star Scout currently has from Scout Carolina is Devonte Holloman.

From a Nov 14 article from Scout:

Holloman originally committed to the Gamecocks’ in-state rival Clemson in May, but decommitted shortly after Clemson head coach Tommy Bowden resigned in October. Holloman then opened things up to the Gamecocks, North Carolina, LSU and Tennessee.

But after a near-perfect official visit to South Carolina, the rangy safety knew it was probably the place for him

    ...

“No more visits for me; USC it is,” Holloman said. Once Holloman opened things up it was only a matter of time before [Defensive Coordinator Ellis] Johnson and safeties coach Ron Cooper opened his eyes. Both played a large role in him ultimately picking the Gamecocks. “They’re great coaches, and they treat their players just like they would their sons or daughters, but they hold them accountable for what they’re doing.” Holloman said. “I really like that they hold them responsible for what they do. I just really like the way they treat them as people, and just more or less them as coaches.” ... “The coaches (played a big part)."

I've had many a player tell me all through high school and right up until signing day that they were coming to Alabama, then they signed with somebody else.

Allegedly in an interview a highly touted recruit out of SC was awaiting to see where Koenning was going and would follow.

Could very well be referring to Sam Montgomery, who is very interested in Clemson at this moment and is being recruited by Koenning. Could be Malliach Goodman, a 4 star SDE currently commited to Clemson, but I tend to doubt it.
