It does seem like all the DCs looking for work are soft zone DCs. Is there some corrrelation here?

Sure seems like either their doing an extremely good job of S'ingTFU on this, or someone jumped the gun on changing the name of this thread... because these statements made by Vic himself are almost identical to comments made by Chavis... who I might add is now speaking with Clemson.

    Nice find:

In the 1998 article, Vic talks about how he was brought in to change the D from a "bend but don't break" scheme/mentality to an "attack" style defense.

Vic talks about how he did that, including diagrams.

    Shows how Wyoming went from:
    96th to 23rd in Total D
    50th to 17th in Scoring D
    87th to 7th in Passing D

Vic concludes: "We have bettered ourselves statistically by becoming an attack defense and allowing our players to pin their ears back."

He also wrote: "Only Florida State had more sacks than us this year, so we are convinced it is effective."

Didnt Bama play Clemson this year? I think they did and they did not struggle to make headway against Vic

Clemson looked like crap against Bama. But your boy Chavis and his Tenn D looked like crap against a lot of teams over the years as well.

As for Ed O, when he was at Ole Miss, his D got progressively worse and worse each season he was there.

Sounds like one of the Golden Girls. They have passion and I bet they could recruit but I wouldn't want one of them for DC. O would be a good DL coach but isn't DC material and proved it at Ole siss. I'm not overly excited about any bend but don't break DC like Vic or Chavis but either would be a huge upgrade at this point.

Both Clemson and Tenn played Bama this year.

The Clemson D held Bama to 5.2 yards per play (in 80 plays), the Tenn D held Bama to 5.5 yards per play (in 67 plays).

    The Clemson D gave up four FGs (21-yard, 26-yard, 34-yard, and 54-yard) and three TDs (1-yard, 4-yard, 4-yard).

    The Tenn D gave up three FGs (30-yard, 39-yard, 43-yard) and three TDs (1-yard, 3-yard, 4-yard).

The Clemson D gave up 25 first downs, the Tenn D gave up 23 first downs.

Sure, the Clemson D gave up one more FG than the Tenn D did, and two more first downs, but the Clemson D was on the field a lot longer -- 41:13 (69% of the game) compared to 35:32 (59% of the game) for Tenn's D -- 80 plays compared to 67 plays for Tenn's D.

The reason was because Clemson's O turned the ball over twice (fumble and INT), while the Tenn O didn't turn the ball over at all.

have either Mallory or Pevoto been fired yet?

Not if they have been told we are actively pursuing a new DC.

There is nothing shady about lining up a new DC to take over while we wait for LSU staff members to go ahead and find new positions and let things work themselves out.
