Sure there's a time and place for popping one to your TE. Like the David Jones TD against Ark in 2003. And that little bootleg TE play action scheme we had going with Nicky Savoie and David LaFleur in the mid-90s was a beautiful thing to watch. But we probably have $50 million in NFL contracts sitting in our WR corps this year. You gotta get the ball where the talent is. Those guys will put up the points for you.
Perfect example. ASU goes to their TEs J. Lewis and Z. Miller (and also WR Haggans) because that's where their talent is.
yeah they can find ways to get it to the TE a ton even though they have ASU school record holder of all WR records, derrek hagan. there's plenty to go around here as well. jones is super talented yet hasnt been utilized in his career here thus far.
Hagan is ASU's stud WR, but what other WRs do they have? Jack Shmack and Joe Schmoe? So they need a 2nd and 3rd target in their passing game; that happens to be their two very talented TEs, Lewis and Miller. At LSU Doucet, Bowe, and Davis are all top 3 round draft picks, Skyler Green could be up in that category as well, and X.Carter has a shot. David Jones might get drafted in the last round or two.
Anyone who questions how good ASU's WR's are must not have paid much attention to any of their games this year, including vs LSU. They are all very talented, big, strong and fast. The reason they do use their TE' s more other than the fact that both of them are talented, is because they throw the darn ball over 50 times a game and use the TE in lieu of running plays besides going downfield to them. Jimbo will use the TE when he see's a matchup or line up advantage, etc. And I doubt that he will forget about them because they dropped a few passes. I would like to see them send the WR's a little deeper to open some space up underneath for the TE's but he has called good games this year IMO. I have no gripes really.
Zinger came back and made a nice haul for 17 yds. LSU needs to pass to the TE more, and should improve here. Florida has one helluva TE. We'll be seeing the ball coming at him Saturday. Keep "zinging" em in there, best on first down!
