I was also advocating throwing more to the TE. I was disappointed with the TE's performance against Vandy, but not to the point where I think you totally wipe them out of the offensive philosophy and attack. I hope Jimbo & JR give 'em another chance.
If Jimbo decided against throwing a ball to all of the guys who dropped a pass or fumbled this year we wouldn't have anyone to throw the ball too except for the true freshmen.
Just look at the bright side: Alley gets to redshirt and still maintain the same amount of years left to play! :thumb:
He's right, we should be going to the TE's more. Sure they didn't have what anyone would consider a stellar outing against Vandy but that doesn't mean you just give up all hope and show no confidence in this highly competent players. Clearly a more balanced offense can only help us.
What doesn't make sense is not using every weapon at your disposal. We shouldn't stop throwing to the TE's we should either teach the ones we have to catch the ball or find some others that can. Just a handful of passes to the TE, when caught, can create some big plays and open up a defense to a lot more. If you can't hit the side of a barn with your gun you don't throw it in the river you learn how to shoot it. JMO
Somehow it has gotten very fashionable in recent years to gripe about your hometown team not going to the tight end enough. I don't see the point unless you have a Kellen Winslow type. I say, get the ball in the hands of the guys who can score touchdowns - the backs and the receivers.
Yes why make the defense defend the whole field. :dis: I've watched LSU get absolutely torched by much less talented TE's than the "soulja" in recent years. Even slightly talented TE's can spread the defense, freeze the LB's and give the defense something to think about and defend. It just doesn't make sense not to use something that could help the offense. Don't abandon the TE just get them to produce.
