Jones was ****in' up! Nobody can deny that. The question is whether it was just one bad performance or if it's what we would continue to expect from him. I'm operating under the belief that he had a bad night & can be much better... We have talented WRs, but using the TE is an extra weapon that can be very effective when used properly. I see no reason not to use them if they are able to perform.
Maybe the coaches see this in practice and that's why they do not call the TE's number in games. Although I have heard that Zinger shows great hands in practice.
I think Davis caught the flea flicker? Zinger had a really nice catch on the sideline, might've been the flea flicker, but I'm pretty sure it was Buster.
I don't know if I'm the only one, but I think it's a little early to be completely writing off our TE's. I admit that they both had very poor games. However, didn't most of our WR's have a case of the butterfingers against Ariz. St.? Hasn't Xavier Carter had trouble catching and holding on to the ball this year? I certainly don't think that we should stop trying to get the ball to them. Now I'm not saying that David Jones and Keith Zinger have the big play ability of Carter, Doucet, and the rest of the receivers, but effective use of a TE can be invaluable to an offense. I think our TE's have the talent and the catching ability to be dangerous offensive weapons and I would hate to see the coaching staff give up on them just because of what happened in one game. If this has consistently happened in practice then that is a different story. Let's just not be to quick to write them off. These guys turned down scholarship offers from many other schools and I hope they both have fantastic careers at .
I dont care who they throw to as long as he catches the ball..... maybe even run after... lets win....hell throw it to me.... LSU has way to much talent... they are getting better each game... by the way dont throw to me I might drop my beer... :geauxtige
Nick used tight ends at the fullback position on running plays a lot. They got more game time at the position than the fullbacks themselves. I haven't see any of that this year. Are our true fullbacks better, eliminating the need to put a beefy TE there? Or are the tight ends badly needed on the line this year? While we do need to be able to throw to the tight end in many situations, it should not be forgotten that the tight end's main job is to be a second offensive tackle on his side of the line and block, block, block. They seem to be doing that job pretty well.
Let me say this...I was one who was whining and complaining about the lack of usage of the TEs and exploiting the middle of the field. BUT after what I saw at Vanderbilt, I totally understand why Jimbo has been so reluctant in to giving the TEs a bigger role. Dropped passes, fumbles, sure touchdown dropped...How many chances do you continue to give them before pulling the plug? If they can't catch well thrown passes that hit them in the numbers or fumble the ball deep in LSU territory all against an inferior opponent then what will they do against top competition. I really thought LSU was missing the boat on David Jones and not utilizing his ability more, but after that horrible a performance against Vandy, I'll be suprised to see Jimbo call on him again or JaMarcus throw to him. Just no excuse for that pitiful a lack of execution.
