Looks like only LSU and Ole Miss offered the young man a scholarship.

Evidently CLM never considered my initial gameplan approach:

    1. Start JLee at qb (Mettenberger would be better!)

    2. Utilize hurry-up offense and passing attack.

    3. Use reverse play with Spencer Ware in option throwing football down rightside of field in either of first offensive series.

    4. Immediately use TEs DePete and CClement to break up Bama's 8/9 man line. A couple of first down completions would do wonders for OL blocking early in the game.

    5. Surprise, surprise. When visibly taking JLee out of the game, bring in ZachM - should be good for at least one Saban timeout!

Sorry but close-to-the-vest conservative play-calling was never going to carry the day for the Tigers in this game.

BTW, didn't the Nov 5th game film introduce Brad Smelley to the LSU defense? Are the DBs allowed to play bump-and-run?

And, being down 15-0 in the 4th qtr is technically "in the game" but that's like sleeping atop the edge of the building on the fifth floor.

If people want to obsess over everything Saban does or doesn't do as the one true gold standard in this sport, then support Bama. He hasn't coached here in 7 years, and he's never coming back.

What I have noticed about La. high school qb's is that they face very little defenses that are lights out against the pass. High school teams face very few offenses that light up the passing game. Most are run first oriented. You have your Evangel, Curtis, Lutcher, etc. that pass pretty good but on a whole La. high schools are run first. This is contrast to TX, FL, CA where they do pass alot. Those corners see sophisticated passing teams and learn how to play them ours don't. La corners don't really blossom until they get to college and see a lot of passing action. They have the tools, they just don't get a chance to hone them in high school.

With that said you can watch a qb that has decent passing skills in a La. high school and think he is a 4 or 5 star prospect and all he does is crash and burn in college. The difference is because he is facing a real pass rush and corners that have developed into true cover guys. The window to make the pass gets smaller from HS to college and college to Pro.

My son and I follow high school football religiously and go to the LHSAA football championship in the dome every year. Believe it or not JJ holds the record for the longest TD in La. history inside the dome as a senior qb. I think its 80 something yards. The guy he hit was wide ass open and JJ almost missed him. At first glance it looked like a beautiful play but in reality it was not. So just because a qb looks like he can throw in high school doesn't mean he will develop into a great college qb. Anyway thats my take on why a guy like JJ could look promising in high school and terrible in college.

I don't really have a dog in this fight, but it is a bit disingenuous to say Saban wasn't recruiting him. LSU offered, he accepted, Bama and others moved on.

    From your article:

“I had a pretty good feeling that an offer was going to come when they asked me to bring my parents. We had already spoken about it and decided that if LSU offered I was accepting it on the spot because this is the one I had been waiting on. Coach Ed Orgeron and Ole Miss offered me a scholarship, and Auburn, Alabama and Florida starting getting serious about recruiting me the last couple of weeks, but this was the one I really wanted. We still have a lot more to accomplish this season at Destrehan, but this really is a dream come true for me.”

I didn't think I'd just dreamed that Bama was recruiting JJ.

My favorite phrase... "wide ass open". Used in every game I've ever watched. Even some basketball games.

That is your opinion. There are plenty of other recruiting experts that spoke highly of him in high school. There are so many factors that go into whether a player will succeed in college and some of that is due to luck. But Jefferson was a top 10 high school QB for a reason.

Stop it. You have no idea how involved he is and trying to parse information from his quotes is an exercise in futility.

Because football players fail all the time. Human beings fail all the time. If it was that easy to make it to the NFL, you'd be doing it right now, right?
