I did not say he was pitching great. He was toughing it out. He was not getting shelled. If he was walking batters, giving up base hits and then a 3 run homer or 2, then he would have been yanked. As it was, he was getting batters out. He had one bad inning. Coleman had his B game and CPM felt that was enough. And he was right.
Grad was at the game? SWEET! Dude, was it really as hot as it looked? Did the TV cameras make it hotter? :hihi:
i thought cpm did the right thing in leaving coleman out there. he was still striking people out, he got the ball up a few times and they were taken yard. i'm glad he didnt use ross, and i think it set up perfectly for today, and tomorrow if needed. texas had 1 run scored on a pass ball that wasn't a solo shot, and they really didn't threaten with baserunners at all last night.
speaking of screen shots did anyone get the the shot of the texas fan get pissed off at the LSU fan for robbing him of the home run ball in left field? it was the homerun that barely cleared left over shimpf's head, texas fan was about to catch it, and an LSU fan put his glove in front of him and snagged it, that texas fan was pissed, he was screaming at the dude.
You also have to consider that LSU is playing errorless defense and with HR's the defense was unable to help Coleman. It would have been one thing had the balls stayed in the field of play giving the D a chance but the HR's really took the great D out of the game. PM is a great coach, was definitely the right hire and should IMO be the coach of the year. No doubt the future looks very bright with him in charge. That being said I think he made the wrong call leaving Coleman in and it nearly cost us the game. No way in a championship game a pitcher should be allowed to give up 5 dingers before you pull him. Hopefully Texass will now be demoralized, but I doubt it. Hopefully the Tigers will have that killer instinct, get some good pitching and finish the bonghorns off today. The key besides some decent pitching will be to get some hits early, chase the Texas starter and get in their bullpen. If the Tigers can do that it's all over.:geaux::lsup:
It was a hitters night last night and I'm glad CPM left Coleman in. He's the best we've got, and definitely better than any middle relief we could have went with in those conditions. If he pulls him any earlier it's probably a 10 - 6 UT win.
agree with legacy on that! (well, except that i got to see the whole game.) after all we have heard the past few days about lsu and long ball, and texass and small ball, the horns got their score off of the long ball and when it came down to it, small ball won it for us. thats why good teams need balance and need to be able to play both, and to utilize whatever best fits the situation in front of them at the time. it great to see lsu have that balance and be able to play all aspects of the game. if we face the type of pitching that we cancome out swinging and play "large primate" ball tonight, then i hope we crush em with it!
