As Sooner mentioned, Cox is getting smart. I got an offer in the mail today for Cox Flex Watch. Includes all Premium and local channels for $19.99 per month (2 year price). That targets both the premium free standing app markets and the local sports/news aspect that many worry about before cutting the cord.

but what about that pesky HD service and it's accompanying equipment needed to view it? surely, that's not free.

Time Warner has not budged in this regard, but I assume they will have to eventually.

I have been using laptops connected to the TV for years, but my wife and the rest of the family had not yet fully adopted "cord cutter" status until I grabbed a Fire Stick from Amazon. The ease of use for the device and the apps have fully converted the entire family. The remote works via WiFi instead of infrared, so the performance is substantially better and doesn't even require line-of-sight. The menus are pretty self-explanatory and the investment is minimal at $35 for the Fire Stick.

You can try SlingTV and Vue on the laptop/tablet for free for a week before deciding to buy the stick.

The full Fire TV box is so much better than the stick... Snappy, no delays, runs apps and Kodi perfectly... Also, the stick does not have the horsepower to decode OTA HD TV.
