i agree with red about vinyl. its just fun to play records. watching it spin round, the whole experience, its good times. and they certainly sound better than i require.

i havent needed to stream espn yet, as this is my first football season without cable.

most ufc ppv i go in with a friend and buy, but sometimes i sad solo watch it at home and stream it illegally. but the quality is not good. if the espn i would get illegally is that quality, i wouldnt like it. espn is available online though my 360, but unfortunately not through time warner cable. FIOS is coming to my neighborhood and that would be good.

Nope. Yep. Upsampling is the quality issue with compressed audio and imagery.

No, iTunes allows you to sample in several formats, including lossless, and several sampling rates, pick the highest one. That is for ripping disks and discs.

Downloads from the iTunes store come in two flavors. The original 99-cent tracks with copy protection and the new $1.29 tracks with no protection and a higher sampling rate.

Speaking of vinyl, when Lisa and I first got married I was still a part time club dj. From the mid 80's thru 91 I was in a couple of record pools where I got everything that came out. When all was said and done, I had about 5000 LP's. They took up an entire room in our apartment. I eventually traded them to a buddy who was getting into the business. I got a bag phone. I'm thinking I got the better end of the deal :) I only kept about 15 records. I gave my turntable away before out last move.

After I ripped all my cds I had no problem dropping them off at the Saint Vincent's. I kept a few cds of friends bands and independent label stuff I could never replace. Even with all my vinyl ripped I could never part with it.

If I could find a way to rip all my kids' DVDs I would get rid of those too. I hate them taking up space in my house. If I could clear thoae shelves I could cram a few more comic books there.

i hear that, boss. i have been trying desperately to reduce the amount of things i own, just the crap that clutters up my world. its very pleasing to reduce the number of items sitting about needlessly. thats why i gave away my blu-ray player.
