I woud bet that any random dozen posters on this board could sit together and go through the books and within a months time could figure out how to cut the expenditures to a level that would allow the current amount of tax income to pay for government and pay down the debt. Without having to worry about reelection or paying back supporters the hard decisions could be made. It's politics that won't allow the bills to be paid and debt paid down not the amount of incoming revenue.

Just think if the government actually made all the people getting paid unemployment for 99 weeks and all the welfare people to work doing something important that's good for the country. There are some damn big wildfires burning out west that people with shovels could help put out. Other areas where fire is a concern because of undergrowth could be cleared and fire breaks made. There are lots of things that could be done to earn government money. Lots of people would want to get off government support if they had to work a shovel all day

    I was exaggerating.

    Top 50% pay 96%
    Top 10% pay 64%
    Top 5% pay 53%

    Looks fair eh..

Not at all. You are using totals, not percentage of income.

They pay a larger percentage of income as well. They also shoulder a larger portion of the tax burden than they receive of the income side. Those two CBO reported facts invalidate your argument.

40% pay no taxes at all. How in the eff is that fair. America supose to be fair and equal with justice being blind but almost half the country gets a free ride while the other half has to carry there azz. Democrats like to talk about social justice. What the hell is so socially just about millions upon millions getting to use the same services and roads while getting the same military and police protections while not paying one dime for their share and still getting to vote. That's like allowing the pothead to guard the weed evidence storage room.

Who said it was supposed to be fair? I haven't read te Constitution in a while, but I'm pretty sure it's not mentioned anywhere. An even better question is "Unless you're in the top 5% of earners, why do you care?"

fairness is maybe one of 4 things on earth that actually matters.

i think one of the things the constitution is most about is fairness.

one of the more irrationally selfish attitudes ever expressed.
