Bad calls are definately a part of the game. It's unfortunate that they still happen with all the steps taken to prevent them. The review upstairs during a game is the perfect example. With the rule in place, 2 bad calls should have been prevented. One call, I understand. 2 calls?.........I don't think so. I've heard some of the best known commentators in college football come to the same conclusion about the Auburn-LSU game. Most agree that LSU did not lose that game. Even the commentators that aren't obvious pro-LSU guys agree that the refs "dropped the ball" on their calls. Having said that, without the Auburn loss, LSU only lost one game last year. And we've got postings here that claim Jimbo was a mediocre OC. That's unbelievable. Jimbo is a giant among coordinators. I'm just surprised he's taking another coordinator job instead of a major head coaching position. He will get there eventually, but it's surprising the step wasn't made this year. My suggestion to Jimbo's detractors on this forum would be to open up your eyes and see reality. For all the great things he did at LSU, he should be praised and stop trying to find flaws. Sure, he made a few mistakes, but they were very FEW. :geauxtige :usaflagwa :geauxtige :usaflagwa :geauxtige :usaflagwa :geauxtige
That's what I said. I didnt try to deminish all the great things he did for us. I said he was an excellent coordinator but had some mistakes, like the emphasize on the running game when it wasnt working....:thumb:
There probably will be some dissatisfaction with any coach that is in the spotlight. The fact is that we won a NC with Jumbo as OC, and he is widely regarded on one of the top in the nation. We won a lot more games than we lost during his tenure and we should not forget that.
Yeah Jumbo was great for us  . There many moments where i thought our offense was absoultely unstoppable. Like Arkansas many times, 4th quarter of Tenn. etc. He made some very good called games, but its hard to blame the offensive coordinators for lack of production. If the players are executing he doens't get much credit, if not he's under fire. It's the offensive coordinators job to find the weaknesses in the opponents and capitalize and also to make adjustments. He does both very well and maybe had a brain lapse against Auburn, it still was a game the players could have won despite the playcalling, most people don't realize that.
Jimbo was a good coordinator and considered one of the best. A few folks fault him for not being perfect in every way. These folks will never be happy with any coach. They will get ulcers from stress and die young.
True, but don't forget that Crowton has an outstanding record of his own when it comes to developing QBs. And he didn't have the talent pool that he'll have here.
I accept the fact that bad calls CAN be part of the game; but in that Auburn game, the number of critical calls to me was more than average. That's why I think that if the bad calls in that close game was halved, it could have made a difference. I also don't necessarily care for the bad calls that come in LSU's favor, as an LSU win is not as gratifying, deep down. It will be nice if the review system is better perfected.........
You mean like that Russell fumble in the TN game? Do you still remembere that blownout TD in the first quarter. We get one but we always pay the price by another call against us. That Auburn game just drives me crazy everytime I hear it mentioned. Even the announcers who are not biased and who see replays from every angle where saying "Oh boy, Auburn got away with one" every five minutes!! We were screwed BIG TIME!! And people seem to forget other critical calls like the interception and the Hester fumble out of bounds. But I do agree we should've won it even with the bad calls, thats why I said I'll never know why Fisher emphasized the running game when it was awful...:thumb:
Maybe Hester has the answer. Hester said. "I think he'll just play to his strengths. Run the ball. If it's not working then we'll throw it. He likes to run the football. It might be out of the shotgun sometimes, but he still runs it. So I think we're going to have a balance because the head coach (Les Miles) likes to run it so much..." Maybe Fisher was not the person responsible for the conservative approach after all.
