We never had any of it to miss. Our "offensive coordinator" played with a yo-yo during games and Shula's standard remark was "We need to start executing". The only "overview" Bama fans are interested in is an offense that doesn't eat ice cream cones in the weight room.
Its hard to say really, Crowton probably has the advantage in creativity in the offense. But man, Jimbo really knew how to develop QB's, Booty,Davey, Mauck, and obviously Russell. Russell really improved exponentially everyyear and I think Jimbo deserves a lot of credit for that, and tahts why he's at FSU now trying to revive that offense too. They supposedly have their own JaMarcus-type QB in Xavier Lee, who still is pretty raw.
No doubt, Jimbo did a GREAT job developing our QBs. When things were clicking, he could destroy good teams. But as stated, on bad days, he stayed with things that were not working, like the run against Auburn last season. Look how well JaMarcus drove the team down the field on the last drive. Some felt JR lost the game tossing an int on the last play, but I think Jimbo lost the game by not playing more aggressively earlier in the game and placing JR in the position of having to score a TD on the last play to win the game. Auburn was in the prevent D on the last play and it would have taken a miracle to win it. I liked Jimbo, overall he was a very good coordinator. My hope is that Crowton is an excellent coordinator. Time will tell. I liked the article. :geauxtige
We lost Auburn by not having a kicker who can hit a field goal from 50 yards. we had the field position for such a kick twice in that game and could not take it. If we had, we could have won the game on a short field goal on the last drive. We are going to face tough defenses again this year and we desperately need a long-range kicker.
How fuggin sad. Now that Fisher is gone he wasnt very good, cost us games, cost us the national title, etc. sheesh...:dis:
It's not just now that he's gone, if you go back and read TF over his tenure at LSU, there was always dissatisfaction with his play calling. Go read a thread on last season's Auburn game, and folks wonder why we tried to run the ball as much as we did, for the entire game we only averaged 1.8 yd. per rush. Scott never touched the ball, and he'd been our most productive back prior to the Auburn game. Now there's a loss, and it was not on the defense, the defense was EXCELLENT that day.
I still think a big factor in that Auburn game was the damn Refs that overwhelmingly ruled against LSU on several key situations. If you take away most of those bad calls, LSU would have won.
That was definitely a factor also. There were about 4 significant calls in the game that all went against LSU and should have been called in our favor. The pass reception for a first down that was ruled a no-catch (although this is the most arguable, it may not have been a catch), the interference on LaFell in the end zone, a holding call on us where nobody saw a hold (not even the announcers on replay), and the final "no pass interference" on Doucet on the 10 yard line late in the game.
Bad calls are part of the game just like injuries, and should not be used as excuses. We lose calls on the road and we get them at home. It all evens out. Fans just tend to forget when a bad call goes our way.
