According to the 2007 NCAA rulebook, fans are NOT subject to the NCAA rules, although the band is.

    Rule 1-1, Article 6:
All players, substitutes, replaced players, coaches, trainers, cheerleaders in uniform, band members in uniform, mascots in uniform, commercial mascots, public-address announcers, audio and video system operators, and other persons affiliated with the teams or institutions are subject to the rules and shall be governed by the decisions of the officials. Affiliated persons are those authorized within the team area.

Hrmm, I thought it was a 15 yard penalty.

Easily one of the dumbest rules in the NCAA's book. Can't believe they ever thought it would work...

Thats about the "stupidest" rule I've ever heard. Yea, like "thats" gonna stop fans from raising hell when the opposing QB is trying to call, or change the play is insane in CFB. (Ever wonder why they practice sometimes with loudspeakers etc!) Like the grass on the field its part of the game, "deal with it"!
I think they tried something like that in the NFL for a year or so if memory serves...Don't think it went over very well and they either dropped it or just dont enforce it. "Man" when will they ever learn...the "fans", pay the bills, keep the lights on etc. If they enforced this very much, there wouldn't be any CFB, anywhere!

    :lsup:LSU!:lsup:LSU!:lsup:LSU!:lsup:LSU!:lsup:LSU!

    ........always "Tigers"!!!

Yeah, the stupid nfl tried that when the Saints had a super defense. 91? I remember being at one of the games when the refs penalized the defense because the crowd was loud. It just got louder.
what happened to home field advantage?

I do agree with the band not being able to play. High schools are the worst at it. it aggravates me to high hell when st. martinville's "band" "plays" when the opposition has the ball. but, sometimes, they are too stupid to realize that the home team has the ball and still plays. dummies!

Look, just because your "Horseshoe" can't get loud enough on game days doesn't mean you have to come to the LSU boad and tell on us! ;)

Ironically, considering who started this thread, that was the tOSU game in 87. It was awesome considering it was the first play of the game.

Loudest day game while I was in Tiger Band.

Any quarterback who has the balls to complain to a ref about crowd noise gets props for having the balls to do so, but should then have them removed for being a whiny b*tch.

Can't remember who the QB was but awhile back during a Longhorn vs Aggie game (@ A&M), the texas QB looked to the ref complaining he couldn't call any signals. The ref was like "what the hell can i do?" (his expression, obviously not his words), but the Texas QB wouldn't get back under center and the refs finally called a crowd noise penalty on A&M.... and the crowd went quiet so that they could play football... actually they just stayed loud or louder and just like someone said earlier the ref just told the QB to f-ing play ball.

I was at a Saints game once in the early 90's when they called it on us (5 yard penalty?)... I think it was freaking preseason too. I believe against the bills. Who was the QB for the bills back then, the guy who lost all those super bowls?

I recently read some sports column on this very topic that basically said the rule is still on the books but never enforced these days. Said it was really only done, and only rarely, in the early 90's and maybe late 80's.
