I think that Croom will do a good job for MSU. Ex-pro assistant coaches (like Nick Saban) coming to head coaching at the college level seem to be more successful than college assistant coaches jumping up. It gives Croom credit with recruits because he "knows" what it takes to make it in the NFL.
Croom was a great center at Alabama in the early 70s. Small but very quick and tenacious. Bear Bryant liked to take his best athlete and put him at center, like Charlie Mac liked to put his best athletes in the defensive secondary. I wish Sylvester Croom well. It will be interesting to see who he hires for a staff and how they and he begin establishing relationships with high school coaches.
