I don't give Saban any credit for the penalties being down, going by his record here, we always had a lot of penalties when he was here. I agee about Applewhite, and I've seen Saban be critical of his play calling on a few occasions. Terry, does he survive?
This has probably been posted... I didn't see it if so. I would have made another thread but we don't need another thread with his name in it. I did however find it pretty funny, so I thought I'd share it here... So without further delay, I give you Saban in 5 years:
No, I don't see him in any trouble at all. Where to draw the line is a difficult thing, but a QB making mistakes isn't always the QB coach making those mistakes. The play I mentioned earlier was the naked bootleg that ended up in an INT at the end of the first half. I thought there should have been a TE on the right side in that play. There wasn't. Where we were, field position wise, I would have preferred JPW taking the sack. He didn't. He says he was trying to throw the ball away...but you would think watching the play he tried to force it to the TE on the other side of the line. That being said, the secondary receiver tripped on the play as well or he would have been open. A lot of the inconsistencies in the QB position are because there are things Applewhite is changing in what he's (JPW) doing. With a first year offense you should expect those things. Some Bama fans tend to ignore that fact. It's a different drop, a different set, and to somewhat of a degree a different release. As far as the penalty discussion is concerned...I'll leave that one to you guys. I've seen a lot of what I would consider mental mistakes on that end with the Tigers.
We are having penalty problems, some of it I think is the rep the tigers have. Even you would have to admit that some have been questionable, even taking into account how bad the officials are. But plenty of them are legit, and it needs to be adressed. But I still contend that we had that problem when Saban was here, so I see no reason to credit him for Bama's lack of penalties.
Is this the one you are thinking of? The discussion of what Bama's record would be starts a few posts into the thread. http://www.tigerforums.com/tigers-den/56174-lsu-loses-bama.html
I agree, some are questionable. I also see some that just what they are. I would have to research this but I wonder if there is a difference in the numbers called when these kids were in high school and it's translated.
I remember posting in it so it can't be this one. I remember it being specifically about predicting Bama's record. Perhaps it was deleted.
Here are the numbers. Yr....No.....Yrds 00'...81.....707 01'...77.....656 02'...92.....740 03'...102...845 04'...72.....547 05'...108...907 06'...83.....657 07'...91.....699 So far Ironically 03' under Saban was our most penalized season under him. Guess it doesn't hurt as bad as it seems.
