I don't know if I would use the "overwhelming" adjective to describe how many think Saban is the best coach out there. Now, they many say that on the 'net following their heart because he is Bama's coach. But, if you had a conversation with most, and I'd say this is an overwhelming number, they would rate Saban on par with coaches like Stoops, Spurrier, Richt, etc. There are different levels of coaches in the NCAA. To that, I think we can all agree. Is Weiss a bad coach? There are questions as to whether the can adjust to the college game and the players that are in it, but I don't think you'll find anyone questioning his knowledge and ability coaching offenses. Leech at Tx Tech is a good offensive coach, but hasn't fielded a defense that makes them title contenders. But, that doesn't discount his ability. There is good, fact based reasoning to the notion championship contenders are in the future at Alabama. Up until our game, we were in the race for a spot in ATL. Who thought that would be a possibility this year? Heck, most here were saying 4th in the West, at best.
:rolleye33: Bama fans arent in meltdown, they are actually positive. We have 1 or 17 posters that would like for them to be in meltdown.
Overwhelming was probably a bit over the top, but there are a good number of them. I'd agree with Richt and Saban being on par. As for Saban being on par with Stoops and Spurrir, I disagree. Stoops went 13-0 his second season at OU and won a NC. Since then he's posted records of 11-2, 12-2, 12-2, 12-1, 8-4, 11-3 and has won 4 conference championships. He's done all that in pretty dominating fashion, something that Saban never really did. I'd place Spurrier above Saban as well based on his many titles and how he dominated the SEC. Saban never dominated the SEC.
I read that and see a flip-flop. On one hand there's talk of how the SEC is stronger top to bottom than the Big 12, but if it's about how good of a coach Saban is that discussion is filed in the irrelevant category. Honestly, you've seen the same mention of USC and CPC on this very forum. I dare say we step back to his tenure at LSU and your opinion would be different.
Terry, I agree that most bama fans are not in meltdown mode this year. And Saban has not done a bad job. But Bama has more talent than MSU. A large portion of bama fans (not you in particular, but you have questioned Miles's ability relavent to Saban's) constantly point to LSU's overwhelming talent advantage (overstated in my opinion) waiting for a loss or a sub par performance to pound Mile's coaching ability. By their own reasoning, Saban got outcoached, pure and simple.
