 uh, oh. Somethin from red I agree with. The NRA seems to me lately to be on a parallel with Rush Limbaugh. He was at his greatest in the first Clinton term, having now slid off to the ultra-far-right. I support a short waiting period for background checks, add mental patients, restraining orders, etc. There's no legitimate use for a firearm that can't be planned for a week in advance.

this is sound, reasoned thinking, my question is, why is the NRA so against this?

Come on, Sourdough! You can't be serious! This guy is an conservative kook who hated liberals so much that he shot them in church.

When was the last time a liberal created deadly mayhem? It's because liberal kooks do things like tie themselves to trees and stage sit-in protests at city hall. Conservative kooks do things like blow up the Oklahoma federal building, plant the Olympic bombs, shoot doctors, bomb abortion clinics, form Montana militias, and walk into liberal churches and kill innocent people.

Well, you are misinformed. Most liberals and moderates work for a living, too, obviously! And get this, there are plenty of conservatives out of work and drawing government charity . . . including the conservative kook who killed the people in church! He was on food stamps.

You can't possibly be this naive. People are voting democrat this year because the republicans, with control of all three branches of government, made the biggest mess of things in recent US history.

    Yep.

    :hihi:

Of course, this is not a situation to laugh at, but still, you made me laugh. Prayers and best wishes to those folks who went through this.

Well, it's the slippery slope crap. They think that any government regulation will lead to more regulations and then some G-man come and pry their guns from their cold dead fingers.

They even support private ownership of fully-automatic weapons. I just don't get it. I own firearms and have all my life. But I don't commit crimes with them and I have no problem at all with gun registration and permitting. People who do commit crimes should be regulated like all hell and of course it requires citizens to jump through some hoops, like gun registration and carry permits.

Geez, we license people to drive a car, we need better management of people who buy guns. We have a responsibility and part of that is to remain law-abiding if one wants to retain the legal right to own a firearm.

So the regulation should be a uniform federal regulation and not a states issue? Is that what you're saying?

That's what I am saying! Make it a federal pinch for anyone guilty otherwise. Guilt asseseed on different levels of association. Just like killing an unborn child now = double murder.

Maybe, since guns are in the constitution and people can cross state borders freely.
