Its the recruiting-cover-your-ass technique. You keep things very vague, make sure it looks like you wont be leaving, so if you dont get the situation you want and dont leave, you wont lose recruits, fans, etc. If the guys says, "yeah, im looking around.. maybe ill go, maybe not." any recruit on the fence would just off the otherside and line up against us.
I disagree with the entire premise of this thread. Nick has been very honest with us in every instance of this happening, with the sole exception of the Jaguars 2 years ago. He has never said he would never leave, ala Paul Dietzel. He does not dismiss specific rumors as if they are fantasies and then turn around and leave, ala Tommy Tuberville at Ole Miss (and maybe even Auburn had we not hired Saban). We know this is the drill. We should be used to it. It hasn't seemed to hurt his recruiting so far--in fact, he uses it to his advantage. GEAUX TIGERS
when was he dishonest? what is MORE honest? either you're telling the truth or it's a lie. there is no such thing as More honest. less honest is lying. So he lied? yes? no?
when he said he wasnt going anywhere and that he wasnt interested in any other jobs (when he knew full well that he was miami's top prospect). if you want to bicker over semantics, yes there is. you can be LESS honest by intentionally and willingly not disclosing things you already know that are pertinent to the question at hand without actually denying them. if you are about to have sex with someone, and beforehand they just happen to leave out the fact that they are HIV positive, that's dishonest, despite the fact that they never actually denied it. before you, or anyone else, makes the ignorant assertion that i am comparing the coaching situation to the one i just mentioned, i am not. its just an illustration that you do not have to tell a lie to be dishonest. therefore, excluding facts that bear impact on the same situation as someone else that did not exclude those facts makes you LESS honest than the other individual. in the current context, saban being MORE honest would have entailed NOT out-and-out denying these claims.
I'm ready for him to go if for no other reason than I am tired of going through this every year. I have been one of his biggest fans/supporters but if you want to go ....go. LSU has no blame in this situation they have taken every advantage of appeasing Nick. He's a damn good coach but I would give up a win or two every year for some long term loyalty from a solid coach.
hey i TOTALLY feel you on that one its like being hooked on some dame that keeps jerking you around, maybe calling at 2am for drunk sex every now and again
you guys need to awake from your slumber. their is no true loyalty granted to coaches so coaches cannot give blind loyalty to a university. the 5 years Nick has already granted, by today's standards, is as longterm and committed as most anyone gets. there are very few exceptions. tedford/petrino/ferrentz will leave despite their perceived loyalty once offered a bigtime job. so what's your point? :hihi: :hihi:
