I'm happy to see people finally coming around and finding some comparisons that favor Miles to Saban--since Miles is our coach now and Saban is not.
I was mostly being facetious with that comment. I agree completely that the jury is still out on Miles. He need a minimum of 4 years (IMO) before we give him any grade. He has to bring in and win with his own players (I know he's recruiting quite well, so don't start bashing). By saying that, I mean bring in players that fit his coaching style and philosophy. Right now, he's coaching guys who for the most part were brought in because they fit in with Saban's style. He's taught these guys a new system, and is winning, which he deserves credit for. The real test, will be whether or not the guys he brings in will work in his system. There are plenty of examples out there of highly recruited players that for some reason or another didn't "fit" with a certain team. So until he's had a chance to get his players and his style in place, there's really no way to judge the guy one way or another. So far, he's winning a really high pecentage of games, and there's really no reason tothink that will change. But at least give the man a chance to make it his team before grading him.
Even if LSU goes 8-5 next year, you can't say Miles is in the hot seat. Am I convinced that he's our answer? No. Too many times he looks clueless. I'm not sure he realizes what SEC Football means just quite yet, but it's my hope that he's learning. But 11-2 last year, 7-2 this year (with losses to Top 10 teams away)? Hell, Fulmer went under 50% last year. Hot seat, indeed.
Then we'd be like Benson paying Ditka's contract while Haslett took 'em to the toilet. He'd have to have multiple seasons of less than 50% for him to be canned before his contract is up. I'm not a Miles supporter...but I'm not ready to boot him either. I think he should at least get 3 years to prove if he and his system are a fit for LSU.
oh, I'm sorry, I thought last year, this year, and next year finishing "8-5" would be 3 years...... well, yeah, let's see. 2005-2006=1 2006-2007=2 2007-2008=3
Considering the talent, and the favorable schedule, it's highly unlikely (unless they have a complete meltdown, which I don't see) LSU goes 8-5 next year. I'm saying that if he does go 8-5, that's not grounds to can him. Heck, Moo State, Ole Miss, and Vandy'd love to go 8-5. Consistant 8-5 seasons? Yes, I'd say that's not where LSU fans want to see the program. I think the jury's still out on Miles.
Alas, common ground, and you are very correct, we won't lose 5 games next year which brings me back to my first response: The hell I can't. And I'm a Miles supporter.
Key question: who's going to be the QB next year??? IF Russell goes pro, then the rest of the QB's are relatively inexperienced (gametime wise). ________ OXYGEN VAPORIZER
