NO. If roles were reversed and the Dems controlled Washington, we would here just as much bitching and moaning from them as we here from the Dems now. And I'm a Republican.
Nobody's pointing the finger at the black levee boards who diverted all of the money for pet projects instead of shoring up the levees to withstand Cat. 5 hurricanes.... Nobody's pointing the finger at the black police chief who couldn't get the looters under control... or the black policemen and women who joined the ranks of the looters... Nobody's pointing the finger at the black mayor who couldn't get the school buses mobilized to evacuate all of the citizens.... Nobody's pointing the finger at the white governor whom the New Orleans blacks voted for who was in charge of all of the above and failed to do anything about it since taking office...
Maybe locally, but nationally it seems all the fingerpointing is a Bush and all his racist cronies. I've been back home a few times times since the storms, and I can say that the perspective (even only a few hundred miles away in Memphis) is much different outside Louisiana than in La. I think this is mostly due to national media outlets and politicians (mostly Democrats) that only focus on parts of the picture that help advance their own agenda. Again, I'm not trying to claim that Rebublican politicians are any better.
Wikipedia has a pretty good read on it. Interesting to take a look at their list of issues related to the fingerpointing toward local officials and the Bush administration. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Criticism_of_government_response_to_Hurricane_Katrina
It was a no-win for Pres. Bush either way. If he didnt go he would have been accused of hating black people. He went and they slapped him in the face too. I thought President Bush's remarks were first class and he delivered them with sincere feelings on behalf of our nation. I half expected Kanye West to be on the speaking list . It would not have surprised me because they took every other opportunity to show disrespect . This was a person who died and it is a time of reflection on their life . Not a time to put your thoughts on political slander and use it to further your Presidential hopes.
I would think that, after nearly 40 years, Coretta Scott would have made a name for herself as something other than "Widow of...".
