i probably have greater interest than the next guy in meteorology (had a lot of meteorology in college) but I wanted to share this graphic of prevailing winds. I found it when putting my hurricane web site together. https://earth.nullschool.net/#current/wind/isobaric/1000hPa/orthographic=-71.84,27.13,674 Be patient, it takes about 10 seconds to load and start the animation! For you art affectionados, there were times, with multiple storms, when the display looks a lot like Van Goh's Starry Night!
very cool,.. does that stay generally constant like ocean currents? EDIT: I did a little looking, change zoom with mouse wheel, if you click,.. earth,.. a menu opens, with a lot of options to play with. Very interesting @HalloweenRun, thanks for sharing.
Glad you liked it, I forgot to mention how much you can change image. There are prevailing winds, kind of in bands around the earth. I am not sure what the threshold is, but from the times I have looked the perturbations (storms, hurricanes, etc) stand out.
Storm systems rotate counterclockwise in the northern hemisphere, clockwise in the south,.. off the east coast of South America there are two opposite rotating systems butting heads. https://earth.nullschool.net/#current/wind/isobaric/1000hPa/orthographic=-71.84,27.13,674
